This country plays pretend about everything. Gun violence, corruption, racism, sexism, transphobia, etc. etc. Pretending has not kept us safe. The virus doesn't care what you want to imagine for yourself. Studies 10-20 years from now will paint this time like people using radium toothpaste.

I'm laughing off the "I wonder if" start to the BS quoted thing. "I wonder if people who send me $300 will find their next year gets much luckier than people who don't." Like you can wonder anything it doesn't make it evidence or data!

I don't mask in public much anymore but I do at work because I probably encounter 12-15 patients per day with contagious diseases. Does it annoy some people? Have I lost patients because of it? Almost certainly. They can see Dr Gator.

Tweet from Dr Gator I WONDER if people who still wear masks EVERY DAY actually get sick MORE often than people who don’t. My guess is that the long-term stress, fear of disease, and constant worry about other people outweigh whatever short-term benefit the mask may provide, if any,  in that kind of everyday setting. Maybe I’m wrong. But I suspect constantly living in “avoid getting sick” mode comes with costs of its own. What do you think?

I was sure that entering the adult world I would leave behind the social and structural dynamics of high school and college forever, and the extent to which they still linger in the world around me even as I enter middle age pisses me off.

fyi- trans people refusing to vote for anti-trans democrats are not “helping anti-trans republicans,” they’re not “waiting for the perfect candidate” either; what they are doing is not voting for their oppressor. instead of demanding trans votes, demand pro-trans candidates.
