And another goddamned thing abt Platner: stop framing the prior criticisms of him as a failure of wanting ‘perfect’ ppl to run for office. That’s not the issue & never has been. The issue is that the prior “red flags” were all things that rendered his judgment unsound for office.
Said this elsewhere but I’m bringing it here because I saw the way folks acted about Graham Platner, especially when others criticized him. For everyone now posturing about how ‘if everyone has to be perfect, no one would run for office’ and whinging about hearing “I told you so,” this is for you:
the point of due process is to guarantee one's rights are respected in a system where they are in danger of being, and all too often *are*, ignored. there is no right to not have voters deem you unqualified for the senate, much less not have the general public deem you an asshole.
