the past several years have felt like we've wandered from the societal town square and gotten lost in alleyways where we can't see or hear one another or get back out. now adding ai feels like people are turning into trash cans and broken glass and windows and talking about how much better life is

There is a popular blog on tumblr that mostly reposts cute animal/nature videos but is run by a weird cryptofascist chud. Somehow, he still cares about like, science and education. So you'll see absolutely wild takes like "they stopped teaching phonics because they wanted to decolonize reading".

The cozy horror debate boils down to Cozy has recently developed a specific meaning as a label (not a genre), and is often misunderstood Some people use the term Horror when spooky or creepy would be more appropriate Almost nobody who produces art at this intersection self-labels as cozy horror

Dozens of games are released every day, but I want to focus on one that hits this week. Penguin Colony It has a very clever pitch: what if you witnessed a Lovecraftian story in Antarctica through the eyes of the local penguins? But there's a LOT more happening here about indigenous art and artists

The level of just blatant interference on the part of both Meta and X in Brazilian elections is staggering by the way. Like I don't know how to convey this without sounding tinfoil-hatty but it's insanely out in the open and obvious.

As a research tool, Chatgpt is good at one thing: producing summaries/lists that are 40-80% incorrect but can give you an overview of popular terms and discussion topics that you can then look into individually. Even this is bad/introduces bias but, given the state of search, sometimes useful.

While I agree with 99% of the SAG contract, there should be a subclause that audiobook-style text in video games can be charged at audiobook rates. I have worked on at least five games that would have benefited from audio of its in-game encyclopedia but sag rates made it cost-prohibitive.

a project the tech companies seem to have, intentionally or not, is to basically ruin phone calls as a method of communication. too direct to actually be able to speak to another human being, not enough opportunity for them to insert themselves in the middle
