The overwhelming social pressure on all trans people is not to be a trans woman or a trans man or nonbinary, it's to be cis and I think we forget that when we get caught up in intracommunity bullshit.

Like even where you have stuff like clinicians trying to persuade trans youth to "try being nonbinary" (a well documented phenomenon at this point) they don't actually mean being nonbinary, they mean: a) Not transitioning medically and; b) Eventually reidentifying as cis

The same people who will try a trans woman or man to try nonbinariness first will tell a nonbinary person to stop all this they/them nonsense and be normal. It's all about exercising power over us and trying to force us back into cissexist norms.

Similarly, the people who will yell "Only two genders" at an enby will also attack trans people who fall into one of the (allegedly) two real genders. Sometimes by yelling "Only two genders" at them, confusingly.

I learned pretty early on that a good political rule of thumb is to pay attention to the people who were right the last time. It’s kinda jarring how many people don’t understand that. Trans people know ahead of time when someone’s bad news, but they keep getting called liars.
