The WNBA has never had a trans woman play in the league’s 30-year history and now the right and other anti-trans activists are hammering the league over something that has never been an issue, proving once again it isn’t about protection but exhibiting cruelty toward trans people.

Recently had to explain to a professional from outside Toronto, that the vast majority of downtown Toronto workers commute by bike, walking, or transit. Some drive, but they are the minority. Perhaps I should show them these bike share stations…

When CBS hired Morley Safer to 60 minutes, he was a few years younger than ross douthat, but had already covered 9 wars, including Vietnam, where he’d been shot down in combat, broke the infamous village torching story, & got an Emmy for the Gulf of Tonkin Incident. That’s a journalist.

Idea: To stop wildfire smoke from Canada, build a wall the entire length of the US/Canada border and the height of the tropopause (let’s make it 15 km to be safe). Or we can stop burning fossil fuels.

It would be an extremely sorry state if after 30 years of relentless effort, we had to give up on the goal of polio eradication It’s so close, yet we’re now backsliding because of funding cuts. And success rests mainly on two regions between Afghanistan and Pakistan www.nature.com/articles/d41...

Polio should have been eradicated by now. What’s plan B?

Amid funding cuts and political barriers, researchers are asking whether the campaign can ever succeed, and what to do next.

I’m hard pressed to come up with any single thing that has been studied as much as vaccines & autism (vaxx safety in general), or as debunked as a link between vaccines & autism. But even more striking is how these people clearly think autism is worse than your child getting a disease or even dying

Alicia Ault@aliciaault.bsky.social · 2w ago

CDC has updated its vaccine safety pages. Now says: "The claim 'vaccines do not cause autism' is not an evidence-based claim because studies have not ruled out the possibility that infant vaccines cause autism." Whoa #EpiSky #pediatrics #NeuroSky #PsychSky

Autopsies show how hard doctors tried to save babies who died after not getting a vitamin K shot: tubes inserted in their airways, blood transfusions. They’re excruciating to read because they underscore how preventable these deaths could have been. (Published May)

The biggest affront that Canada has committed to the US is declining to be annexed. The mere fact of Canadian independence is what annoys Trumpists. No concessions short of complete vassalage will satisfy them. So we might as well just get on with our lives.

Amid scandals ranging from insider trading to death markets, Congress has introduced 20+ pieces of legislation on prediction markets. I wrote about how there’s still little consensus on what they even are. 🧵/1

New, from @splawinski.bsky.social at Can We Still Govern? The more we learn about how prediction markets operate, the clearer the need for regulation. So whats happening? Congress seems unable to act, while the Trump admin is blocking states from doing so. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/the-only-t...
