at this rate will there be a 2027?

To be serious: the fact the ATmosphere still so heavily depends on Bluesky's appview as it is currently the only one that seems to be an appview of the entire ATmosphere and not just parts of it like Blacksky's appview seems to be (as it still doesn't display all followers, etc.) is a huge problem.

"Kimi,… please create a decentralized alternative to an AppView that is self-hostable even on low end systems, connects to all other instances of itself on the ATproto network & still fulfills the role of an AppView without shattering the ATproto network & making search unusable. Do a breakthrough."

🚨 The archived version of the suppressed Amnesty report into the anti-trans network operating to dismantle human rights in the UK has been "excluded" from the Wayback Machine. JKR is working very hard to scrub its existence from the eyes of the public. Thankfully, I kept screenshots.

A screenshot of the Wayback Machine page when trying to access the suppressed Amnesty report into anti-trans organisation and networks in the UK saying "This URL has been excluded from the Wayback Machine".

you actually can't give the state just a little more power, just one more capability that will be heavily regulated by a nonpartisan oversight committee, and maintain that level of containment for any length of time. sorry, but that doesn't happen and in 2026 it's ridiculous to pretend otherwise

“All sexuality is fluid” is a frustrating take when many people have to fight for their sexuality to NOT include certain things, for their sexuality to be SOLID in certain ways. Some of us have spent decades examining our sexualities and know very well the extent to which they are NOT fluid.

this post and many of the replies are extremely funny to me I got to the "I'm an authoritarian and I also don't think the police should kill people" one and what a thread. what a fucking thread.

If you say you wanna see estrogen sold in vending machines then everyone assumes you're joking, but in a bunch of countries you can legit just buy estrogen at regular normal pharmacies without a prescription or anything and it's fine. It's nbd. It causes zero problems. It isn't even newsworthy.

god I wish we could revitalize the larger civil society tapestry that unions used to be a part of -- unemployed people's clubs, collective funds, fraternal organizations, etc. absolutely dismal feeling to watch professional unions become scarcity-oriented to the exclusion of anyone worse-off

Disney+ has released a list of essential projects to watch before ‘AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY’: • Spider-Man (1978) • Karakuridōji Ultimo • Stan Lee's Stripperella • A Kid in King Arthur's Court • Kamen Rider × Kamen Rider Fourze & OOO: Movie War Mega Max

so much of the global neofascist moment was prefigured years before in india with modi, the bjp/rss, and hindutva, typically on a vaster scale and purer form

If you know you know@privatechand.bsky.social · 12h ago

Incredible thread but it got me thinking about how the Khan Market liberals of India did most of the work for the Hindutva fascists in packaging bigotry in exactly the same way as @nytimes.com and @theatlantic.com until there was no need for Trojan Horses anymore.

at this point if you think this about the killing of Charlie kirk you’re just blind. At the time there were ample grounds to worry that it would be a boon to the right but since then it’s become abundantly clear it’s the best thing to happen to the American left of center in this whole Trump II era

"I am freeing men from the restraints of…the dirty and degrading self-mortifications of a chimera called conscience and morality…Conscience is a Jewish invention. It is a [mutilation], like circumcision…There is no such thing as truth, either in the moral or in the scientific sense." —Adolf Hitler

New from me: The short version of Elon Musk’s comment about empathy, from his interview on Joe Rogan’s podcast, has been going around, like this: “empathy is ‘the fundamental weakness of Western civilization.'” That’s both misleading and inadequate given the context... /1

It may not scan immediately from the statement if you don’t pay much attention to India, but this statement identifies and celebrates pluralism in both the India Day celebration and Indian American New Yorkers more broadly—an explicit contradiction of India’s ethnonationalist ruling government

Mayor David Dinkins once described our city as a gorgeous mosaic. Today, I saw that mosaic in the Hindus and Christians, Muslims and Jains, Buddhists and Sikhs across the Indian diaspora who have helped make our city what it is. To all of them, I say: it is an honor to do that work alongside you.

UPDATE: "Pulped" human remains found in the nation's capital are confirmed to be those of President Donald J Trump. According to forensics, the president's "big goofy ass tie" became snagged on an escalator which pulled him fully inside where he was "completely made a paste of" by the machinery.

if you're ever at a rep showing of The Empire Strikes Back i think a bit that would absolutely crush is the first time Yoda appears on screen you say, don't yell, just at a regular speaking volume, the second you see Yoda say What The Fuck

PSA: Signal apparently has a bug right now where if you have somebody scan your QR code it exposes your phone number and not your username, so if you don’t want to have the embarrassing interaction I just had where somebody was like “seriously? don’t you work in cybersecurity?” act accordingly

So Patreon has a new feature called “quipping”, which is their attempt to be a Twitter-like social media app. But the thing is, when you quip, apparently every one of your patrons gets a notification or email about it. So it’s like Twitter but what if your tweet was an email

I have a dear historian friend who’s leaving academia for a different job. Instead of starting a podcast to bitch about it, he spent years organizing a faculty union. Instead of leaving academia to bitch more about it, he’s leaving to go do higher ed union organizing. Just something to chew on.
