Richard J. Daley Branch enthusiast and general issue Chicago person. I throw yoyos, homebrew and get angry about bike lanes. He/him.
I went to Cook Forrest yesterday, which is a whole different thing than the Cook County Forrest Preserves or so I am told.
This but 1) for bike lane violators, 2) 8½ x 11 sticker, and 3) on the driver's side windshield

Most people do not know the name of this bridge in the South Loop in Chicago. It's been around for 127 years and it was designated a Chicago landmark in 2007. It's called the St. Charles Air Line Bridge. Image at sunrise last Friday.

we're on pace to spend something like 5x the total public library budget on misconduct settlements alone. do we think that number will go up or down with 1,000 more officers? you cannot propose this kind of stuff and be taken seriously as a "fiscally responsible" candidate
4 Months Into the Year, Chicago Has Spent at Least $175.6M to Resolve Police Misconduct Lawsuits
The city’s 2026 budget set aside just $82.5 million for police misconduct settlements, and authorized officials to borrow an additional $283.3 million to cover the soaring cost of lawsuits alleging wr...

if you want to see normally sclerotic do-nothing local governments suddenly snap into action, do some quietly beneficial tactical urbanism type thing like this and watch how quickly they race to remove it
The DSA in Wilmingotn, N.C. has created a "crisis" by putting benches at city bus stops, after literal decades of the city promising and failing to do so.

I catch 74 distracted drivers on my morning commute and I don't even have to put a ghillie suit on
Catching 74 distracted drivers in six hours is good, but what would be better is redesigning the street so drivers are forced to pay attention.
A new @wsj.com piece on Chicago's Archer Avenue Complete Streets project ignores the politics behind the Astroturfed “rebellion” against the safety initiative, and includes a major factual error. chi.streetsblog.org/2026/07/31/j...
If you have the ear of Brandon and his team you should push him to recognize that without us he likely loses. But chastising us for our lack of enthusiasm for him and implying it is about naivety and privilege is not gonna fix the problem. It’s only going to further drive the wedge HE created.
A great video. Definitely take some time & watch it bike folks.
We made a short about the record profits oil companies were making off high gas prices a little over a month ago, and it's just as true today. It's another good reason to look at other ways of getting around!

That is a huge earthquake for the Chicago Architecture landscape. So many immigrant architects come through this program (including multiple former managers & bosses, & dozens of coworkers) and go on to have significant impact on the creativity of the field & of our local industry.
