Excited to share our newest work! We asked whether RNA molecules need to be in a specific place in the cell to do their job. We found that a single RNA must reach the midbody, the structure that pinches two dividing cells apart, for cell division to finish efficiently. 🧵⬇️

I've finally found it. The most painful science montage in movie history. Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus (2009) Yes, Gen X, that is singer Debbie Gibson as oceanographer 'Emma MacNeil'. But the important thing is: she's keeping an accurate lab notebook.

Kudos to @science.org for this self-analysis of the peer review process. These kind of data are never shared and don't have to be. Wildly refreshing to see it out in the open. Editorial and peer review dynamics at elite general science journals | Science Advances www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Always a pleasure to have given multiple hours to help as a member of a thesis advisory committee and to casually find out that the thesis was defended and deposited, without even an email about it from the student or the mentors… The kind of things people can only do once as far as I'm concerned

Great, detailed story on a death in a tragic & flawed Chinese gene therapy trial www.science.org/content/arti... Excellent job by Brendan Borrell w/ @retractionwatch.com. Complex, nuanced & in some respects damning. (On line version looks a bit longer than in Science.) (COI-quotes me, in passing).

That quote links to articles on AlphaFold (and variants) and GNoME, neither of which are large language models. AlphaFold shares some concepts with LLMs (attention and transformers); GNoME not so much. (2/7)
