This is going to come across as pretentious and unhelpful, but I really recommend reading books. Reading a book is the only thing I do where I feel like I'm nourishing my attention span, rather than sanding it down. The trick is to just read whatever you enjoy — not what you feel like you should.

there’s a peer-reviewed article on how professors who bring students baked goods get higher evaluation scores. my colleague would bring this article & homemade cookies to class the day students filled evals out, tell them evals aren’t effective measures of teaching, then leave them to it.

tb to a micro (econ) prof who gave a quiz that boiled down to finding the solution to (something like) xe^x =1, and *everyone* lost their mind trying to solve it instead of just stating that the 'desired solution' was obtained from just saying 'xe^x =1'

To counter my tendency to factor my code in a million different functions, I have configured my editor to gradually reduce the font of each function I create, until they become so hard to read I have to give up. I call that: Diminishing returns
