if establishment candidates want to start winning primaries again all you have to do is say that rich people have too much money and that youll prosecute trump admin staffers and republicans that have broken the law

I will reiterate that Democrats should lean into the idea of an AMERICAN RESTORATION. It’s not only appropriately sweeping, but implicitly conveys that Trump has betrayed and undermined the American system in some fundamental way, rather than merely offering a competing policy vision.

I do find it amazing that even in this moment, the Dems can't come up with some sort of "Contract for America" like language that offers an alternative to Trump. Maybe they have it, but whatever governing vision they have is lost in the noise.

Democrats lost 2024 because Democratic voters didn’t turn out. That’s the truth. But all the attention (again!) has been on Trump voters and what we can do for them and how we can reach them and and and FUCK THEM MY GOD. I am so tired of this. Democrats need to focus on Democratic voters!

This is the risk you take with authoritarian political movements, but I think the GOP is mostly being held back by lack of manpower, not a lack of desire. I think that forcing their hand while they're weak is infinitely preferable to trying to fight them when they're eventually strong.

Kevin Elliott@kjephd.bsky.social · 4w ago

But it could backfire, catastrophically, by coordinating the authoritarians with their reluctant enablers to consolidate control more openly. I doubt that's the reason Dems aren't being louder with threats, but it is a reason to be ambivalent about it. I'd like quiet signaling behind closed doors

Everyone who participates in this administration should be deathly afraid for both their freedom and their financial stability the moment there's a change of power. The best chance you have is to surrender right now.

I think that Democratic electeds and candidates being way more vocal about reprisals on members of the Trump administration would go extremely far in fracturing both Trump's political coalition and causing defections among more rank-and-file staff.

I cannot remember a time in my life when so many people seemed so sad and angry, or when Capital seemed to be so openly, eagerly, and desperately fighting to subjugate everyone else. It seems likely this gets resolved with (hopefully metaphorical) torches and pitchforks.

About 57% of polled Americans also believe economy is worsening in grim portrait of cost of living crisis, according to Harris survey for the Guardian

We have no choice but to transform the party aggressively. We need Reconstruction Democrats if we want to get to the other side of this crisis. But we can't look away from the risks involved in that. We have to face them squarely.
