The main way in which AI has negatively impacted games industry jobs is not through actual automation of those jobs or even untrue claims about automation. It's by making capital unavailable because it's tied up in AI investments while also destroying the consumer base for video game hardware.

I would’ve liked to see a policy that just banned “AI” outright and didn’t include the “significant pieces of code”/“menial tasks” exception, but this is still a very good step forward and close to the strictest policy that can be reasonably enforced in an open-source project in 2026!
For years we have been overwhelmed by the volume of code contributions we have to review, especially from new contributors. AI has made the problem much worse. That's why we are taking steps to reduce the burden on maintainers while still welcoming new contributors: godotengine.org/article/cont...
I do respect Godot’s position on this… they’re in a difficult position, with the state of everything and the sheer amount of people submitting code “written” by LLMs. All the same, I think I’m probably going to be version-locking Godot in any of my own projects to an earlier release now.
I see some concerns raised about Godot's policy on contributions using AI. TL;DR: Godot isn't vibe-coded. As a whole, the Godot foundation and maintainers are fairly critical of AI usage, and don't make nor accept vibe-coded contributions. Godot doesn't include AI features nor intends to add any.
Someone actually crunched the numbers, and using GenAI can decrease reviews for indie game on Steam (a useful proxy stat for sales) by as much as *58%* 🤖

Anyway I'm just going to say it outright: if you're an indie dev using AI for coding, above and beyond any other objections, what you're telling me is that you have no solidarity with anyone else in games. Not artists, not writers, not other coders. You beleive in personal convenience at all costs.
Sharing a really awesome animated music video that just released, made by some of the best humans I know! #human-made #animation #music #supershigi www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ac-K...

I may create things that aren’t the most polished, or are unfinished, possibly even just absolute garbage… …but they’ll be MY absolute garbage, from my imperfect human brain and imagination, not from some slop machine built from an amalgamation of other people’s work.
This is insanely bad for anyone doing game development. Who the hell knows what Gaming Copilot is doing with your screen captures, but it almost certainly isn't compliant with your NDA.
If you're using Windows 11, Microsoft is now surveilling you in a new way. This may already be turned on on your computer, and you would not be notified; it activates whenever they detect you are in a "game", which in my experience Microsoft often false-positives on doublepulsar.com/microsoft-bu...

Thinking of experimenting with running my own tiny Mastodon / ActivityPub instance… I miss when the Internet was a web of little personal sites, forums, and communities instead of everyone being on a few big sites, waiting for the heads of the new big site to screw everything up again.
Gonna go even further: don't refer to it as "consuming media" when doing this. You aren't a consumer - it's not a product. You read books. You look at art. You watch movies and/or videos. Be careful about word choice. Reject "consume" and REJECT "CONTENT." IT IS ART. YOU ARE ENGAGING WITH ART.
I'm being so real right now, learn how to engage in media as art and not a reflection of your own real life morals. consume things that make you uncomfortable and understand why it makes you uncomfortable. Don't just base yours and others morals standings on the media you consume.
Yet another good reason to not use the plagiarism machine for game dev, including at the concept/placeholder stages:
Another reason to NOT use genAI made assets as placeholders (if this is even a thing 🤷🏻♂️): The person capturing footage for your game's trailer is much less likely to notice them! When an asset is NEON HOT PINK or incredibly rough, that makes it crystal clear I should avoid or capture around it.
Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.
All I’m going to say about recent happenings is that the people in charge of my government continue to work overtime to convince me that I am a horrible person and the reason for everything bad that is happening. Feels real welcoming
Godot has become a viable game engine Blender has become a viable 3D modelling AND animation tool SteamDeck is now a fantastic "mobile" Desktop platform AAA is shrinking / abandoning territory, ceding more genres to indie Basically, (funding sitch aside) indie gamedev is seriously looking up!
Please give me an unironic list of things that have gotten better over the last ten years because I’m spiraling. I’ll start: you can buy an enormous TV from Costco for like $100 bucks now.
September is Bi Visibility Month, so perceiving me may be easier, as all bisexuals have disadvantage on stealth rolls until Halloween 1st.
I don't get how people don't realize that a technology that replaces junior and entry level positions in a field destroys that field. There's no skipping steps. You have to be a junior before you can be a senior, and if you don't have senior people, you don't have a field.
Remember, kids: A real big goal of "AI" is to entirely sever capital from labor, and no, there will be no universal basic income, you can all just starve and die, thanks www.axios.com/2025/08/26/a...
itch.io has been nothing but supportive of LGBTQ+ work since the beginning. it pains me to see the community turn on them like this and so gleefully spread misinformation about them without even giving them a shred of benefit of the doubt. journalists too...
Well, that's not great... 😬 (fortunately, this is "just" a backup storage device)
