Lived an example of this for 2 yrs in a small desert town in Texas (2012-14). After the third murder in 6 months, I left in a big hurry. Ironic that this issue comes to a head here in the big US.

America's corporations got what they donated billions for and they're gonna find out the hard way how much name brand trustworthiness they'd built up with the consumer was actually government regulations forcing them to make safe and reliable products.

At this point, most of the affected foods are off the market and out of the fields with a huge loss to Taylor Farms. We are however just another extra hot irrigation pond from doing the I gotta shit runs again. Eat local ppl, the shorter supply chain makes tracking eaiser and faster.

As as a lady, who shovels salad into her mouth at lunch, Taylor Farms is ubiquitous. Food policy is an innovation system, that depends on IP, public health, environmental law, and employment law, and antitrust to function well. Each of these areas: under attack by the Trump Admin.

I worked for New York’s largest medical center at the start of the pandemic. There were morgue trucks on the streets. They set up emergency medical tents in Central Park. Healthcare worker colleagues died. It is horrific that RFK Jr is on national TV lying that ICUs were empty.

It continues to fuck me up that we stay thinking about 9/11 but want to memory hole Covid so bad we're destroying the entire concept of public health in the US.

This may be a normal process of any new technology. I suspect large % of AI fear is it’s out of the public’s participation in how it’s used & generated. Also misuse is rampant, shoved into places where ppl don’t want it, it’s abused by laziness/‘cheaters’, & less publicity on realized benefits.

I have a pet theory about bluesky: there's actually a silent majority of people with concern, but ultimately a nuanced opinion on AI. But this crowd is generally too hesitant to express any excitement or wonder bc there will be a hard-and-fast backlash from the vocal anti-AI contingent. Kinda sucks

It's in all four quadrants. AI is intermittently powerful but both it and we are very poor at knowing what it's good at, and what it's awful at. Harm arises because it's being used without understanding, and/or towards malign ends.

The headlines are still covering the cyclosporiasis outbreak from lettuce, but let's talk about a different summer, long ago. The headlines in Bavaria would have called it "summer diarrhea" & it was killing babies. Enter our hero, Professor Theodor Escherich of the Julius Hospital, Würzburg.

I don’t think there’s a single individual bubble on bsky; there’s lots of overlapping communities and subcultures. But as the saying goes, reality has a left-wing bias and so with the blocking tools we have the BS of the right simply can’t get traction.

Bluesky isn't one bubble, it's a lot of different ones. The problem is those obsessed with social media politics and that aspect of twitter (and now most of X), only see 'one' version of things. CEO clearly taking the same line, instead of leaning more into the advantages of the system they have.
