This epic paper, which has been a heroic 10 year journey for the lead author, Ricardo Barrientos, is finally out in Cell today! Many thanks to all co-authors, especially Billie Meadowcroft and Andela Saric for their beautiful MD simulations www.cell.com/cell/fulltex...

Basement membrane turnover controls cell shape

Basement membranes are scaffolds of proteins, like collagen, that give organs shape. During development, basement membranes must adapt to the growing organ. We infer how fast the basement membrane ada...

Enjoyed r summarizing this important & reproducible (yes we tried it) paper on how DMSO is sufficient to induce human balstoids from human naive PSCs, emphasizing (again) the great importance cell state has on embryo models formed. Congrat to Mo Li group & @KAUST . www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Tissue remodeling often involves removing cells by extrusion, to eliminate dead cells, unhealthy cells or even to change tissue shape. Read this wonderful thread highlighting some of the papers that advanced our understanding of this key process. 🧪

How do tissues safely remove cells? Join me, @marija-matejcic.bsky.social in this perspective on the past, present and future of epithelial cell extrusion 🧵 0/16

Just approved an order for standard lab consumables. Prices have nearly doubled since starting the lab. Meanwhile, the bar for publishing keeps rising, requiring ever more costly experiments, while grant budgets barely changed. Hard to see how this is a sustainable trajectory for academic research.

Multi-ciliated cells drive many key events, including, for example, expelling pathogens and debris from our lung airways. @raghavan-thiaga.bsky.social Provides a great introduction to the cell biology behind this, and the many unanswered questions. Plus lovely images!! Check it out. 🧪

From single-celled organisms to ciliated epithelia in metazoans, precise positioning of basal bodies (BBs), which anchor motile cilia, is essential for generating fluid flows. Here, I, @raghavan-thiaga.bsky.social, will take you on a brief tour of how cells build this spatial organization.

I missed the discussion around @qedscience.bsky.social ranking release. My take: I tried it on one of my published preprints. It did catch the major gap that we are aware of. The suggested solution was unusable. My impression (n=1) is that its feedback is internally consistent with the paper,...
