Abundant housing and stuff 📍Atlanta. Roots in KY, BOS, CHI

AOC is right ofc. We're stuck with the QTS data center behemoth on the #GApol Beltline now. But at least it would pay $42M in taxes in 2026. Come to find Assessors staff reverted to <$2M without telling their board. Will the board insist on correcting it back, so at least Atlanta gets fair revenue?

Today I asked if any Congressmember on @energycommerce.bsky.social would want to live next to a data center. The silence in the hearing room reflected the realities of working people across the country. We must address the real, dangerous health impacts of data centers on our communities.

Yay for ATL DOT and yay for MotorBiscuit, a car-centric magazine, for highlighting the actual truth: motorists wouldn't be grinding rails on the lane dividers if they were actually paying attention to the road. CDOT, can we get these, too? www.motorbiscuit.com/atlantas-new...

Atlanta's New Bike Barriers Are Flipping Cars and Sparking Debate

If you drive down Cherokee Avenue in Atlanta's Grant Park neighborhood and see a car precariously balanced on two wheels atop a concrete divider, don't

It's berry season and you have the tiniest friends. These critically endangered babies are Egyptian tortoises that hatched on July 4 and 6, 2026. Currently, our Egyptian tortoises are living behind the scenes in a warm and cozy habitat with lots of attention from their dedicated animal keepers.

I had my students read this for the Public Policy Theory class and they loved it. Brought up mētis throughout the semester (key concept in it that Jesse describes below) and named it as one of the most important readings of the semester at the end of the year.

I just finished reading “Seeing Like a State.” It argues that “high modernism” (Brasilia, soviet collectivization, Tanzanian forced villagization) failed because it put complex humanity into overly-simple schema. I think it has interesting things to say about AI’s impact on the labor market. 🧵

We've got to think about transit from a holistic perspective: That means not just funding transit lines, but also building homes. One way to do that is to help communities land bank for development around stations ⏬ It would be great to see this concept included in future legislation.

Although cities have become more adept at transit-oriented development in recent years, almost nine times as many units were added far from transit stations …

well, it took a year and change, but Cambridge's first-in-the-nation project to upzone the entire city for 4-to-6 story residential has finally produced the kind of thing it was supposed to: 55 units, 20 percent affordable, replacing a single $3m home

Can any MARTA riders explain the logic of having the 2 go to candler instead of Inman (where the 51 and south Moreland connectors all go - 4, 32, 74)? I thought it was to serve the Target / Kroger shopping center but the route stays north of DeKalb and doesn’t do that anymore.

Aye, Georgia, early voting ends on Friday and the primary is on Tuesday. The Supreme Court election is on this ballot. It is not a primary, the winners are installed as judges. Go. Vote.

Breakdown by age of early primary voters in GA through May 12. Grid shows fewer than 20% of early voters are under50.

We have so many amazing candidates running this primary season, and it has been really hard deciding who to vote for this cycle. But, it's an amazing challenge because it shows the deep bench of talent in our party! Here's our ballot guide for the 2026 Democratic primaries and nonpartisan races:

Happy Kentucky Derby day! Options for observing like a local: - do yardwork (it’s tomato planting weekend) - host a backyard party (hats not required) - drink bourbon - bet by drawing a random horse name (every horse needs a friend) - complain that the race isn’t at 4:00 like it used to be

This is surely not the only collision between a driver and a cyclist at this dangerous intersection with a street and the Beltline path, off of Bill Kennedy Way. There's no signage alerting drivers they're about to turn across a bike path. Ridiculous. www.11alive.com/article/news...

Science alert: 3D view of ongoing fires & smoke plumes explain why the smell of smoke is usually more potent in the morning. The US is off to its fastest fire season since at least 2012. Several large fires 🔥 are burning across Florida and Georgia. But wait, there’s more… 1/

Renewal of Atlanta's TADs: I'm 90% sure they'll get renewed regardless of any pushback b/c Dickens wants it & he has a gift for getting his way. Nonetheless, it's a mistake. Wanna fund affordable housing? Design a tool specifically for it; one that can't be co-opted for questionable projects.
