The way these "AI checkers" work is very, very simple. It feeds part of the text into an LLM. If the LLM predicts, correctly, the missing text, it scores that as proof the LLM produced the text. And LLM's literally stole *every fucking book and forum post ever fucking written* to train on.

An interesting warning for writers: There have been ads, making their rounds on social media, advertising writing contests with large prizes. Beware-- some of these contests are tricks to get you to submit files that will then be used to train AI models (LLMs). READ THE FINE PRINT!

Just FYI there’s an account on here called @redditspaceviewes.bsky.social (with over 200k followers) that is posting a bunch of AI slop (including a “Saturn polar hexagon” with 8 sides) and claiming it’s NASA imagery. If you see anything posted by them, it’s likely fake.

You absolutely SHOULD NOT go around telling people that data centers are full of gold, silver, palladium, copper, and that the data centers are almost entirely unstaffed.

The use of “hallucinate” is a stroke of true evil genius in the AI world. In ANY other context we’d just call them errors & the fail rate would be crystal clear. Instead, “hallucinate” implies genuine sentience & the *absence* of real error. Aw, this software isn’t shit! Boo’s just dreaming!

We should institute reverse hunger games where the richest people in the world fight to the death every year, and all the assets of the dead get spread evenly amongst the rest of the world population.
