One of my all-time favorite romcoms, less about falling in love than it is about the feeling that you have no control over when or if you’ll get a partner. Should be shown in a double feature with One Night Only.

Timer (2009). Fantastical rom com where an implant lets the user know how long until they meet The One. A very well observed, and very Californian, comedy of manners with Caulfield excellent as a hopeless romantic who is hopelessly modern and wants the impossibility of love with contract riders.

My horrible ex’s family were deep in the low/no carb/keto world (they launched a diet program pre-Atkins) so one of the weirder parts of this era of truly absurd pseudo-science is reading a quote and being unfazed because yeah, that sounds like something his parents might have said

To O’Mara, the diet is not just a temporary means of losing weight but a way to eat for good. He has been doing it for 10 years, and credits it with turning his life around. At one point in our conversation he pulled up the Bristol Stool Chart, which ranges from Type 1 (“separate, hard pellets”) to Type 7 (“watery, no solid pieces”). O’Mara is consistently delivering Type 4 (“smooth, soft, like a snake”), with pointed ends, indicative of healthy rectal function, he told me. “When you start eating healthy, you don’t need toilet paper,” he claimed. “Animals in the wild have no residual stool on their anus.” He described a proper bowel movement to me this way: odorless, wipe-free, over in three to seven seconds and “nearly orgasmic.” “I could have a bowel movement behind a sheet at a dinner party in the corner of the room,” he said, “and nobody would know.”

If I were going to launch an ad campaign for Bsky it would be “your favorite posters post here” and I would kick @darthbluesky.bsky.social, @jcsalterego.bsky.social, @jamellebouie.net etc some money and then use their skeets and follower counts in ads. Not whatever the fuck Jay’s doing.

We all have our pet theories for why the Bsky leadership Is Like This but mine is they deeply resent us for chasing off and/or being hostile to Notable Personalities because tech nerds are constantly chasing the approval of the Cool Kids.
