BREAKING: Wyld Stallyns will no longer be opening for Ed Sheeran
BREAKING: Crash and the Boys will no longer be opening for Ed Sheeran
when you work at the BPAF but you’re beginning to realize there’s not going to be a successful IPO
Am reading a book in which a very competent female character has to secretly clean up the scene of a bloody murder and after doing so puts the clothes she was wearing on "a hot wash". Yes, this book was written by a man.
This is an incredibly thoughtful, reasonable statement from an actual human being, and explains why "I don't take sides" isn't any kind of defence.
New: Macklemore says Robert Kraft — who owns Gillette Stadium, where Macklemore & Ed Sheeran were to perform later this month — called Sheeran. Kraft rallied other owners together behind an ultimatum for Sheeran: if Macklemore stays on the tour, you won't be allowed in our venues.
Anyone know why a newspaper owned by the Fourth Lord Rothermere, who inherited a fortune from the Third Lord Rothermere, who inherited his money from the Second Lord Rothermere, who inherited it from the First Lord Rothermere, is so strongly opposed to inheritance tax?
We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art, and very often in our art, the art of words.
Ake, Ake, Ake: A Forever Language. For our forever language to flourish, it must be properly funded to do so. A Green Party in Government will proudly fund te reo Māori to thrive for generations to come.
For my Canadian followers, you also have indigenous language options!
The Canadian equivalent is Manitoba. I am trying and so far failing to get my granddaughter to do it
Tiny little way to add some reo into your life that I have adopted. Instead of saying "Mississippi" or "potato" when counting out seconds, use the 4 syllable Māori place name of your choice. I have landed on "Whakatane" for some reason but the options are many, "Ōtepoti", "Rangiora", "Papanui" etc.
THIS. When you let your opponents choose the battleground and set the terms of engagement, you've lost the battle before the first shot is fired. You also can't fall if you're already on you knees, whimpering as every passer-by kicks your arse.
underrated part of El-Sayed’s messaging strategy seems to be shaming journalists who ask dumb questions that play into right-wing frames. you can’t answer these in a way that satisfies them, but you can make it embarrassing enough that you impose a toll on asking.
The sun will rise in #Christchurch #NewZealand tomorrow at 6:36, 109 seconds earlier than the day before. It will set at 18:15, 65 seconds later than the day before.
I don't fuckin know; sometimes you just need to look at a jellyfish.
I usually wait until Labour Day weekend for this but Climate Change, so this is your annual reminder to include sunscreen as part of your morning routine from here on out (if you don’t already).
Not the mayor making anti-library statements this time, thankfully, just one of the Usual Suspects. CCC has annual spending of approx. 1500 million, and it spends only about 70 million of that on its libraries, which have a 95% satisfaction rate and blow past all their KPIs
Close libraries for a day or kill animals - Christchurch councillor says over Orana Park financial woes
Popped into the petrol station earlier for some snacks. Pleased to see these te reo cards out on the counter so people can order their drinks in Māori.
yes, and unfailingly predictive of absolute cowardice. If someone waffles on trans rights, they're wrong and gross, but also, you know they're just spineless losers who don't care about anything. nope, bye, next.
trans rights frankly is a top 5, potentially top 3 issue for me despite not being trans and not having any trans family being bigoted against trans folks not only hurts my trans friends and every trans person but is so predictive of further bigotry
Right now people who don't like people are in charge of the future of people
when I see AI generated things, I am seeing a large field of pieces of human-made creative work that has been put through a blender, and while I cannot see/know the originals directly, I am aware they exist, because that is how AI works. I am not seeing a cat, I'm seeing 10,000 photos of real cats
For real, I work with some insanely talented, creative people. #blessed
Happy 60th anniversary of the first ever episode of Star Trek airing in 1966! Librarian Bronwen is a longtime fan of StarTrek and Steampunk and sewing! She used a library laser cutter to create the Starfleet emblems for her belt, buttons, communicator badge, earrings and hat pin. ^MT
“I put an asterisk in a cock earlier.” Love a bit of grawlix conversation in the workplace…
So one of my favourite things about #WORDchch is that it brings all the booky people together and you get to bump into folk you don’t necessarily see that often, sometimes people from out of town and it’s a delight. I’m biased but book people are the best people.
