I like life in Vancouver 🇨🇦, languages, open-source software, solving confusing problems with data, dogs, distance running, and my 👶 son. It's just everything else that worries me.

But that feeling of a shared bond among all Americans in the early weeks after the attack is something I’m so glad I got to experience. Because it’s the thing that I think we’re missing the most today.

On Sept 11, I was 19, a junior at Cornell, double-major in linguistics and physics. I was taking Intro to Islamic Civilization, a class I was really excited for. The first 2 weeks of the semester had focused on PRE-Islamic history. I had just written a short essay on the Mu'allaqa of Labīd.

In the Jim Crow South, withholding votes wasn't even an option—Black citizens were violently disenfranchised. Where they could vote, they practiced ruthless harm reduction. They didn't risk letting open white supremacists take power to test an accelerationist theory.

A must read--an infuriating read--from @Timodc. "Eissa is in an ICE processing center...The Kafkaesque nightmare we are putting this family through is hard to wrap your arms around. They are stranded there with no way out, no charges, no trial, no jury." www.thebulwark.com/p/marco-rubi...

America gave Rubio’s family a second chance. He gave this family a cage.

Hell yeah, I wanted random things to be more expensive solely to prolong our inevitable loss in an inexcusable and inexplicable pissing match with a longtime ally and trading partner that abided by the trade agreement Trump signed with them.

Native-born labor force participation just hit its lowest August on record. Despite the admin's claims, deportations are not freeing up jobs for Americans — 600,000 native-born workers have left the labor force in the past year.

I've seen everyone sharing that US Dialect Quiz so I decided to make my own, much crappier, CANADIAN DIALECT QUIZ to guess where in Canada you're from

A flow chart I have created with multiple questions and the answers determine where you're from.

Question 1 is do you call it a hydro bill (which then branches down to ON, QC, BC, MB) or an electric bill (which then branches down to SK, AB, NS, NB, PEI, NL)

Question 2 is do you call it a cabin (BC, MB, AB, SK) cottage (ON and atlantic) camp (northern Ontario) chalet (QC) or bungalow (Cape Breton)

To delineate BC from MB: do you call it dinner or supper

To delineate southern Ontario rural or big city: have you heard of a stag & doe

To delineate SK from AB: do you call a hoodie a bunnyhug

And finally to delineate NL from the other atlantic provinces: whaddayat? (Correct answer: dis is it b'y)

A mom of five was convicted last week of delinquency of a minor. Her offense: allowing her 5-year-old son to walk about a half-mile by himself in their gated community. The government also placed Karyann Parkinson on its child abuse and neglect registry, where she will remain for seven years.

I spoke to @cnn.com about an important linguistic question; when the U.S. government dumps someone in a country on a continent they've never been to before, does the word "deportation" still apply? Or is what's happening something different — a rendition? www.cnn.com/2026/09/03/u...

As the Trump administration sends migrants to faraway, unfamiliar countries where they are again detained, some immigration advocates argue that the word “deportation” is no longer sufficient.
