The 52-year-old magician has trained for weeks for the risky stunt, taking shallow breaths while locked in his box. He says he only feels slight dizziness after the pool ordeal. “The important thing is to believe that you are safe, don't breathe deeply and don't make any unnecessary movements.” 2/2

Aug. 5, 1926: Harry Houdini seals himself into a coffin that’s then lowered to the bottom of the pool at the Hotel Shelton in New York. With no visible breathing apparatus, he remains underwater for 1 hour, 31 minutes, before signaling through a buzzer to be brought back to the surface. 1/2
Weird to see Ted Lasso’s return posited as a long-awaited return of a beloved classic TV show, even though it only ended a few years ago, which is the average length between seasons for a lot of TV shows now anyway.
Ted Lasso is back for another season, but I do not think Ted Lasso knows why it's back for another season. We discuss on Decoding TV https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/decoding-tv/id1163344992?i=1000780060619
THE NINJA TURTLES WERE *RIGHT THERE* Literally! In New York! It coulda been a fun meta joke!
Not surprising. This is the same film that claimed soon-to-be 90’s children had fallen out of love with the Ghostbusters in favor of *checks notes* He-Man.
The Ghostbusters 2 soundtrack is a perfect example of white Hollywood having a hard time grappling with the resurgence of ‘black music’ since the first film. The first movie’s soundtrack is entirely a grab bag of white Top 40 fluff, but then you’ve got Boingo balancing out Bobby Brown, etc in GB2
I can't find a clip, but in GHOSTBUSTERS 2 Oingo Boingo's song "Flesh 'n Blood" starts to play, but you only hear about a second or two of it before they cut to another scene. Still appears on the soundtrack album, though! (And it's a different mix than the one on the OB studio album.)
If you'd like something even more dangerous, our archive is so old that we don't use these fancy modern rolling stacks. Ours are attached to a motorised chain that runs the length of the room. This means sometimes they like to move by themselves just a little, enough to keep you on edge.

“Sure, we just shoved 3 episodes of a TV show into a trenchcoat and called it a movie but no one cared, but it moved a lot of Fortnite skins and we can write it off as longterm benefit for Disney+”
"The company did note that The Mandalorian and Grogu “underperformed” at the box office, but argued that “these franchise investments contributed to value creation beyond their theatrical releases.” You had to be incredibly optimistic to hope for anything better from a film that follows 4 seasons.

i think about this all the time
Medicine. Medicine has grown by leaps and bounds. You cannot introduce vaccines that crater cancer rates, cure AIDS, and cure sickle cell, and then tell me things have only gotten worse. Also: Food. To a HUGE degree. I eat what I once considered rare treats every day, now.
Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.

It was so damn depressing to watch every TV writer who was willing and eager to have open, intelligent conversations about their process get hounded off social by a combination of aggressive stans and belligerent wannabes defending the right to be a shithead to creatives
I keep thinking about the discourse from the other day suggesting writers are gatekeeping writing information for ourselves and I just think back to 2019 when every writer was out there giving away writing advice until one by one each stopped because social media blows and we can't have nice things.
My friend, Cat mentioned she has some availability for projects so if you want a collaborator who is imaginative, easy to work with and makes art with charm for days then reach out. She's ready to make another masterpiece with the right material!
