I know the drugs cost money, but morally I think vets should waive the fee for euthanising pets, especially if they've already had hundreds off you for treatments and medicine that didn't work. Thanks for killing my cat "nicely", here's £700. Madness.
In my book 'The Evolution Underground' (2017, @pegasus-books.bsky.social), I wrote about how pocket gophers & their burrowing made them ecological heroes after the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens. Nice seeing these little burrowers still getting recognized for the feats of their feets! 🧪🌋

If a baby hands you a toy telephone to answer, that's a sign of great respect in their culture.
It's common knowledge that one of the most dangerous times for a woman is after she leaves an abusive man. It's terrifying to then, with shared custody, let that man have access to your child. Knowing his anger and violence issues, you will do almost anything to try to keep him calm and happy.

Almost certainly the best thing I was ever told about owls was when I met an owl handler at an owl sanctuary and he told me that the wild owls who lived near the sanctuary worried about the tame show owls there and sometimes stopped by to leave them shrews and mice as presents.
