No war but class war, no king but Christ. He/him. Fannish occasionally.

#MythologyMonday Beautiful illustrations of stories from Celtic mythology - John William Waterhouse's painting of the tragic tale of Tristan & Isolde, and Margaret Jones' illustration of Cai & Bedwyr riding the Salmon of Llyn Llyw [from Culhwch and Olwen] in the Mabinogion ...

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

Many comments on the great election victories in Brazil and Serbia state that the authorian right is in decline or that voters have rejected far-right authoritarianism. That is a wrong interpretation of what happened. Progressive movements mobilized and beat the authoritarian right. That's different

What's striking to me are the rules of engagement and the methodology of action here, which more or less is predicated on burying liberal delusions about "debate" or the "marketplace of ideas". The rules were ultimately very simple: amplify your own message and suppress your opponent's.

I spent all day writing the thread in my head about how Bolsonaro's win was the culmination of a 20-year project to end Brazilian democracy, with the participation of both domestic elites and foreign actors like the US state department and Meta. This is all true, of course, except he didn't win.

I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.

Sometimes it just dawns on me how deeply weird and wild this situation is. A company making a crappy, unchecked and badly designed product, but thanks to pre-existing science fiction narratives they can aggressively tout their own failures and inadequacies as reasons for self-regulation

"Anthropic model accessed voter information" Yes the info is publicly available (for a fee) but "the model bypassed a paywall in accessing the information, according to Georgia officials and Anthropic." www.axios.com/2026/10/25/a...

I'm not some campist who's going to say we should all accept what's coming to us but we are at war with them and the way we still treat it as surprising that means they're at war with us is a little silly

If James Talarico loses next month blame it all on me. I live in New York and have nothing to do with Texas, but I have ignored his what I estimate is approximately 433 texts asking me for money. So.

It is possible - desirable, even - to pay close attention to the things they say they want to do or try to do without jumping to the conclusion that it will work. That's how they want people to think. "They are omniscient and can do anything" is how weak, insecure bullies want to be seen.

I understand the freakout here but honestly this one reads as a sign of weakness to me a) peltola is going to win by more than the second dan sullivan's margin b) this argument is pathetic, and if their strategy is 'throw pathetic shit at the wall and hope something sticks' I'm less worried

As we approach the midterms, remember that the Alt National Park Service is a merch sales operation claiming without evidence to be a group of federal employees, and is not a genuine source of news about elections of any kind. Please get your election info from a local, reputable source.

Alt National Park Service: After our last post, we’ve heard from people reporting voting machine issues in South Carolina, Texas, and Tennessee. We haven’t independently verified these accounts. We also read Stella Parton’s account of having to correct her selection before casting her ballot in Tennessee.

If you experienced a problem, please share your firsthand account in the comments below.

I'm not clear on the timing of culture panic right wing discourse, but it's wild that (from my perspective) there was a rash of "How dare children go no contact with their parents" followed IMMEDIATELY by examples of some major reasons people might go no contact.
