Anytime someone progressive suggested on twitter that making learning engaging might help, the reaction was 'soft bigotry of low expectations'. But you can't have it both ways. None of which means that COVID itself or the responses to it weren't traumatic! They were.

It's astonishing that people in positions of influence, whose job is inderstanding policy, can look at the death toll from the UK and the death toll in New Zealand during the height of Covid-19 and conclude we should have been more relaxed in the UK.

I see the ‘trauma doesn’t need different teaching’ is doing the rounds again. I don’t often comment because it’s a bit personal but the way some people talk about children really offends me. Some children have already experienced more in their wee lives than we ever will. Some children will have -

Time and this is something that is difficult in schools because managing the behaviour in the meantime, is really difficult. But it’s never about ‘letting children behave as they want.’ The other big unfortunately, is that at a time when children need ‘a person’, schools are not in the position-

Interesting to see this raising its ugly head again. Everyone did the best they could - and we are all living with the effects of it today. As did people post-black death, or any other plague you care to mention.

No need for anyone to agree with me - but some of the responses to this on here reminds me just how stifling and absolutist a period in our national discourse Covid was.

This whole package is potentially quite exciting, especially if DWP support can be effectively devolved and integrated with other services.
