Re: The Louvre jewel heist I forget to realize sometimes that most people don't follow art world news, so for those who don't? "Lost painting/jewel/sculpture resurfaces!" isn't really that unusual a news story. And unless they're found, it's what'll probably what'll happen with the Louvre pieces.

Bleh, there was a really interesting looking election tracker that popped up on my feed this morning but I can't remember enough specifics to find it in a search and scrolling back through 12 hours of timeline just isn't gonna happen.

A bit of pedantry here - RADAR is an active system so gaydar wouldn't be silent in a signals sense. You would need a gaydio reciever or gaydrophone – ideally both – if you wanted silent gay running.

Image is of text, which reads:
I had a navy friend who insisted he didn't have gaydar, but he did have gaynar. He couldn't detect other gays silently, but he knew if he made a loud gay noise in a room that they'd ping back.

Christopher Rufo illustrates why this strategy of trying to retreat from "unpopular" language not only fails, but actively hurts campaigns. If you end up associated with a neutral or positive term, retreating from it just gives your opponents space to redefine it into a negative one, and you end up

2 Tweets from bigoted republican Strategist Christopher Rufo, the text of which reads
"We have successfully frozen their brand -'critical race theory'- into the public conversation and are steadily driving up negative perceptions. We will eventually turn it toxic, as we put all of the various cultural insanities under that brand category.

The goal is to have the public read something crazy in the newspaper and immediately think 'critical race theory.' We have decodified the term and will recodify it to annex the entire range of cultural constructions that are unpopular with Americans."

It would be a huge step forward for Democrats and for general clarity in political writing if these terms went away. These came mostly from academic hothouses.

I need Democratic online types to understand that because of this, Newsom is dead to me. Dead. I'd sooner vote for an actual corpse. There is no hope, none, that he'll win me over, *because he has established he is a bad person*. There's no coming back from this. Take my advice and move the fuck on.

1. This morning, California Governor said he was in "complete alignment" with anti-LGBTQ+ hate-influencer Charlie Kirk of TPUSA on transgender sports. He also conceded on trans inmates and gender affirming care for youth. It's so much worse than being reported. Subscribe to support my journalism.

Adding on to this - the heart of conservative philosophy is that it is more important to hurt people you don't like than help people you do. That punishing 10 innocents is worth it if you catch one guilty person, but helping 10 people in need is a disaster if one undeserving person is helped as well

there is not a scenario where only people you like get good things. that cruel fantasy is why people voted for trump in the first place. and it is just as much a cruel fantasy for you as it is for them
