OTD in 1940, USSR formally annexed Latvia. Soviets troops had been "invited in" (in accordance with absolutely nothing to do with our treaty with Nazis) & then held "elections" where 99%+ voted to join USSR. None of this should sound familiar to you.

It's just amazing how much time and political capital Europeans invested in discussing an imaginary peacekeeping mission in Ukraine. And for what? The French and Germans and Brits won't go to war with Russia over Ukraine anyway. Use whatever resources you have to get more guns to Ukraine. And faster

As @armida.bsky.social at the @centreeuropeanref.bsky.social put it, it would likely be "a small force, light footprint, very defensive posture, quite far away from the front line," which raises the question of "how useful actually is that as a deterrent to Russia. buff.ly/fkcZMwi

Europe promised Ukraine a deterrence force. The missiles that would make it work arrive in 2029.

The only deep-strike production line opening sooner runs through Ukrainian factories.

As the US government has given signals it would support a Moroccan invasion of Spanish territory to punish PM Sanchez, Rabat has been increasingly emboldened. Despite being an integral part of Spain, Ceuta & Melilla are not covered by NATO's article 5 because they're not in Europe or North America.

Spain sweats over its isolated territories in Africa

There are increasing doubts over who will have Madrid’s back if Morocco makes a move on the Spanish exclaves of Ceuta and Melilla.

This image has been widely shared on social media as a document of the human tragedy that has unfolded in Ceuta and an indictment of the EU's murderous border regime in the Mediterranean. The problem is: It's AI-generated. It has a SynthID watermark, as can be checked with OpenAI's Verify tool 1/

A photographic looking image of shoes floating in the water. It's crossed out with two red lines

This is Elon Musk, a techno-oligarch with 241 million followers on TwitterX, spreading and amplifying Ceuta-linked right-wing disinformation, with one message reaching 9.9 million views and the other 7.9 million as of right now. 1/4

Now, I'm telling you this as a person who has studied Russian information warfare for more than ten years: none of the Russian disinformation campaigns linked to the Ceuta crisis can possibly reach the impact of one techno-oligarch spreading right-wing disinformation on the platform he owns. 3/4

The EU may examine the efforts of Russian actors all it wants - I don't expect it to do anything that will address the problem - but ignoring the obvious, blatant, and direct information threat from the US techno-oligarchy is something much graver than simple ignorance on the EU's part. 4/4

This extraordinary situation should not distract from the fact that our common approach has delivered the lowest illegal migration figures in years: down 55% over the past two years and down 37% so far this year. And we continue delivering along this successful path. bsky.app/profile/fron...

📉 Irregular border crossings into the EU: down 37% in the first half of 2026 🔹 Just over 49 000 detections 🔹 Steepest drop: Western African route (-67%) 🔹 Only increase: Western Mediterranean (+17%) More info on our website.

Russia wants the world to forget who started the war. On 24 February 2022, Putin ordered a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The invasion was not preceded by any Ukrainian attack on Russian territory. The war was not ‘forced upon’ Russia. Russia chose to start it.

This could even be a deliberate disinformation campaign to create a migration threat before an election. Spain's Sánchez is pro-immigration & has just legalised many undocumented migrants. And the responses are predictably cynical, fuelling the far-right everywhere.

If you watch anything on #Moroccans coming to #Ceuta, make it this report. CBS News have interviewed some of them & they confirm that social media posts on Facebook & Instagram told them Spain had opened its borders. They're playing with people's hopes & lives. It's awful. We must combat fake news.
