A major advice I try to pass on: science is only worth it if you can delight in the discoveries of others. It’s great to make your own discoveries but they are too few to sustain you over the long haul.

I recognize it is gauche in Seattle to enjoy Seafair and I’m gonna be drawn and quartered for admitting it but I LOVE the Blue Angels show and watching from my roof every year is a highlight of the summer.

I promise you, when I was in college professors wrote their grades down on paper and it was fine. The whole thing worked just fine and didn’t require a deeply problematic third party vendor.

These viruses have been known problems in Korea for so long that there’s literally a M*A*S*H episode about them. People work their whole careers on viruses most people have never heard of…so that you never have to hear about them.

People shocked Moderna explored a mRNA #hantavirus vaccine don’t understand infectious disease preparedness. Hantaan & Seoul viruses are endemic in South Korea & cause Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome. Vaccines for priority pathogens are developed long before the public hears about them.
