I'm re-reading Lord of the Rings. Last time I read it I was a teenager, and hadn't been exposed to the idea of LotR as WWI literature. Now that I have that frame in mind, one WWI-ism I'm seeing that the Discourse didn't tip me off to in advance is the ever-present fear of aerial surveillance.
