Speed cameras work to reduce speeding. They save lifes, full stop. They are good public policy. Imagine thinking it’s ok to attack speed cameras that work and save lives because you want to be able to break the law and endanger people without consequences.

Millions of drivers across the country are encountering speed cameras for the first time, or will soon. Some don't like it, but advocates say there's clear evidence that cameras make roads safer. n.pr/4gwT62D

Bland article from CBC. Academic quotes are good. Two random people to give "balance". Numbers with no context. Why do bike lanes have to be justified with numbers? How do you compare those numbers against 80 years of building cities solely for driving? www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Are people actually using Edmonton’s bike lanes? Here’s a look at the numbers | CBC News

To cut through all the rhetoric, CBC News reviewed municipal data to get a sense of how often Edmonton’s bike lanes are used.

Dutch traffic lights have a green wave so cyclists can keep going and save their momentum. The North American traffic light experience more often than not feels like the exact opposite of that - green lights will almost always turn red for you if approaching from a distance. 🫠 #yeg #yegbike

The bike parking was overflowing at Heritage Festival today - so many people chose cycling as their mode of transportation since it was convenient and had dedicated parking! 🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️🚴 Edmonton is a cycling city 🙌

I didn’t get a photo, but there are now cuts for a bike counter on the north side of the 142 St pedestrian bridge. It’ll be interesting to see the usage numbers once it is working! #yegbike

Lots of people have a mental shortcut/block that assumes all cyclists are slow. I still get people making turns in front of me when going 35+kmh, if I were driving and going the same speed, most would never even think of doing it (lots won’t even go even if I’m signalling a turn while driving).

Roglic has one of the brightest helmets in the peloton too! Something else interesting is that they're also usually going quite fast, faster than a normal fitness cyclist.

While the Province seeks greivances, we're seeking positivity. We know safe mobility options make getting to work, attending school, getting groceries, visitng care providers, and many other types of trip possible. We will be sharing early results soo, so add you voice now: buff.ly/8TvwT29

Whenever I’m cycling with vehicle traffic, I make sure I’m extra intentional with hand signals to be predictable. Yet for some reason it seems to be too much to ask for the drivers of the more dangerous vehicles to return the favour? I can’t read your damn minds when you stop randomly. #yegbike #yeg

So much upsetting about the Fauci attacks. But it also demonstrates the COMPLETE absorption & normalization of hardcore lies and conspiracy theories by the political right (alas, same here in Alberta). Reality irrelevant. Rage & grievance dominate.

If someone is concerned about the risk to pedestrians from e-bikes, e-motos, and scooters, but doesn't support taking away space from cars to build safer micro-mobility infrastructure then I would question their commitment to safety

For the morning commuters: Avoid Mill Creek Ravine. There is a massive mud-bottomed lake at the bottom of the hill at the north entrance, more than 24 hours after the storm. Also, the tree down on 83rd Ave between 101 & 102 Streets is still there as of 11:30pm. Bypass via car lane. #yegbike

A fallen elm tree blocks the 83rd Ave bike lane and most of the car lane between 101 & 102 streets.

Finally, safer infrastructure induces demand. That means more people will bike when it's safer and 50st isn't safe right now. Measuring the number of people that want to cross a river by the number of people swimming across makes no sense. Cycling is no different.

Noticed some apparent new bike counters recently installed on 100 St north of 76 Ave, as well as 106 St south of 61 Ave! #yegbike

Catching up on the media coverage from the pro bike lane protest today. I don't think it was made evident, it wasn't JUST about 50th street (IMO). It was against the proposed legislation, bullying the City, cars over active transport. Not just one bike lane or street. City wide concerns.

Remember the restaurant critic who wrote up reviews about places they never ate at? Me neither? So why are we taking advice or surveying people about bike lanes from people who have never ridden in them.🤷‍♂️

#yegbike PSA, for some reason these bollards at the bottom of the very steep downhill from Brookside to the Fort Edmonton/Fox Drive area keep getting moved to narrow the entrance. Someone could get very seriously injured if they didn’t anticipate this.
