People go on here to post shit like “We don’t deserve Cori Bush” and it’s like, we’re in a period of left ascendency, if she’s detested in Missouri’s bluest district she’s clearly bad at what she did.
Frequently people on here say that it's because of billionaires, airbnb, private equity, corporations, and other villains that housing is so unaffordable in California. But often it's just because of mom dad grandma grandpa yelling at their city councils that there's too much housing being built

In the mid-20th century, auto and oil interests bought up electric streetcar systems across the US and systematically replaced them with bus routes and paved roads, funneling commuters toward private cars.

I avoid the term “gentrification” when talking about housing affordability because it mostly describes *how people feel* about neighborhood change, not the change itself. For example, this author talks about how containerized trash pickup will “gentrify” NYC’s streets by replacing parked cars:
