And ofc with the GREAT news out in Michigan, the beltway media spin is kicking into overdrive to sell last night as some sort of progressive loss.

Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.

Watched Lions Love and Zabriskie Point last night. Really fun to compare and contrast since they were both shot about the same time, have VERY similar themes and yet Varda's really drew me in a way unfortunately Antonioni's couldnt beautiful as it was.
The thing where I tried doing video because I was like, "Well, maybe I'll actually enjoy this medium" and I hated it, and now it's like do I turn my thoughts into little carousels so that people can not sign up for my newsletter or ever read one of my books anyway? No lol
I’ve started to physically cringe at the sight of an Instagram carousel and that’s the origin of the questions I’m asking here. www.aliciakennedy.news/p/thinking-p...
Do any artists on here also run? I am slowly getting back into it after surgery recovery and really NOTHING helps my lower back pain from drawing/animating all day like a morning run!

All respect to the New Yorker but saying "all leftists" and "all progressives" is flat out not true. If Lina Khan was so "unknown" why were all my friends and I excited to have her in NYC in ANY capacity?
PREVIEW FOR GIL THORP... IN THE FUTURE! by @ohhhaeee.bsky.social y moi. read for free! www.gocomics.com/gilthorp
I feel like I'm in Bizarroland seeing the online enthusiasm for The Met's Galliano show. Every serious fashion scholar I know is horrified. Not only due to the obvious ick factor, but because we just don't think his work is all that. Beautiful and theatrical, sure, but derivative and appropriative.
Highly recommend Gods & Kings from Dana Thomas for the best context/bg on how John Galliano since the very beginning of his career has always been a world class shit. Also its essential reading for McQueen mega-stans like myself.
i can’t really imagine any moment in the history of the world when someone had shuffle going and hit “debaser” and clicked next. that to me seems preposterously unlikely.
The Democratic establishment LOVED this guy, and thought he could be President. Contrast that with how they’ve treated our current Mayor
A video taken Saturday shows former NYC Mayor Eric Adams in sales pitch mode in Wisconsin Rapids, as he's heckled by residents opposed to the data center he's trying to sell them on. "My name is Eric Adams," he begins, as the boos begin to rain down. "You belong in prison!" one attendee shouts.

Great time with @whitecitycinema.bsky.social a couple of weeks ago showing him around the peoples republic of Astoria/aka home!!
this is not true. there was no conspiracy. it didn't matter whether the streetcars were publicly owned (seattle, detroit) or private (los angeles, atlanta). a thread (because i wrote a whole-ass book on this): 1/?
Is everyone aware of the General Motors streetcar conspiracy? In the mid-20th century, auto and oil interests bought up electric streetcar systems across the US and systematically replaced them with bus routes and paved roads, funneling commuters toward private cars.
Sundays are fast becoming beach days-not ACTUAL beach but beach/pool movies. Last week was La Piscine, todays is Eric Rohmer's La Collectionneuse which is a solid mix of great vibes and absolutely toxic masculine fragility-

Big day here on Gil Thorp, @jfruh.bsky.social has noted our Gerards Groucho Marx disguise and called him "a kook!". Really doesnt get better than that folks!! (I wish I was joking)

i genuinely think reading comprehension on this site is plummeting.
"'...[N]ot from the Atlantic desk where you have a vested interest in sustaining a system that whitewashes neoliberal ideas and continues to tell us the best use of our money is to subsidize big corporations or a foreign government.' The 'foreign government' he refers to is presumably Israel."
Abdul El-Sayed is mixing populism and anti-Zionism in a way that has little precedent in the Democratic Party—and the ramifications of his conspiratorial rhetoric may be difficult to control, @jonathanbchait.bsky.social argues.
"haha thats so me" as I click each and every post while slowly the void consumes my soul
I'm not going to post it because it's best seen for the first time in context, but the scene from The Sopranos for which Vincent Pastore is best remembered gives lie to the idea that its cast full of unconventional character actors was somehow inferior to the material. I can see and hear him now.
