When I was still lawyering @kathryntewson.bsky.social used to use me as her Rich Idiot Whisperer; having moved among them for most of my career I know how they think. This is a correct take. These people don’t do things to fail, they do them to succeed. The audiences are wrong, not him. Never him.

I'm betting they also read LLM-"summaries" of, or LLM-"arguments" against, my work. What these "summaries" & "arguments" nicely illustrate is that a) LLMs cannot tell apart the structure of different arguments if similar words are used, b) create distorted slop that looks impressive to non-experts.

when I was a much younger man I had a habit of trying to convince conspiracy theorists I met of even crazier theories. if they denied the moon landing, I'd try to convince them the moon itself was a hoax, etc. Starting to worry that might have done lasting harm.
