So they say antisemitism isn’t “structural,” which appears to be true at least insofar as average life outcomes are concerned (wealth, health, education etc). But at the level of thought, it is absolutely structuring and continues to be so.

People in the U.S. get confused, especially young people, because Jews haven’t been subject to de jure discrimination in their lifetimes and aren’t the constitutively dispossessed people of the U.S. polity. (Although in my mother’s lifetime, housing discrimination against Jews was legal etc.)

Which is all a long-winded way of saying: These debates about Zionism and anti-Zionism are mostly unhelpful right now, and I wish everyone could just drop these terms unless speaking historically and talk about their political vision for the future in other terms.

The way people will just blithely state that the world is collapsing and you're supposed to, like, accept it as this conventional wisdom that all right-thinking people agree with

9/ That cafe meeting, Kao asserted, was just one episode in a sprawling pay-to-play operation in Congress. He and his close associates donated nearly $900K to dozens of politicians, allowing Navatek to establish operations in half a dozen states with $40M+ a year in government funds.

i feel like theres people trying to repeat "dems are anti trans" until it takes hold in social media the same way it went with "dems are committing genocide" 'i mean if so many people are talking about it, there must be something there, right'

Ive been a broken record about this for days but right wing activists know when republicans are lying to moderate voters about being moderates and left wing activists simply demand ritual suicide from their politicians in R+14 states.

Folks, Trump's $5000 thing is dumb and transparent and whatnot. It's also never going to happen. But it isn't bribery. "Vote us into office and we'll do this policy thing you want" is the core of what political campaigns are. It would be a very bad idea to start criminalizing that.

Since becoming president again, Trump has promised: -$5000 stimulus checks via "DOGE dividend" -$2000 stimulus checks via "tariff dividend" -$1000+ checks via "savings" from expiring ACA subsidies -$5000 "dividend" if Rs win midterms No checks have been issued www.thebulwark.com/p/trump-magi...

Trump: "If the Republicans win the House of Representatives and the United States Senate...I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5,000."

The dumbest part of lefty purity around a figure like Steinem is not grasping that people liberated from authoritarian thinking and families, by liberals like Steinem or liberalism generally, are OPPPRTUNITIES for the left. "You like that? Have you heard about this?" Etc. Not complicated.

Regarding DSA-LA's non-endorsement of Nithya Raman, I think a lot of people on the left don't get that the way you gain clout with politicians is by proving yourself useful to them, not by threatening to withhold hypothetical future usefulness.

A story of cause and effect: Last November, Ontario banned cities from using speed safety cameras to issue tickets. Reckless speeding immediately surged in Toronto, Ottawa, Guelph, and cities throughout the province. A 🧵 about my latest in Bloomberg (gift link)

What Happens When Speed Cameras Get Shut Off

In 2025, Ontario banned automated traffic enforcement. Now the number of drivers exceeding the speed limit has surged, according to traffic data.

Basic rules of society that we need to re-establish post Covid: - You actually have to stop for red lights and stop signs. - If you want to watch videos or listen to music in a shared public space, you need to use headphones. - Your pet does not need to go everywhere with you. - Don’t litter.

It's wild to me how many people do not understand this. "Luxury housing" is not some ontologically separate category from the rest of the housing market. Nor is "affordable housing." It's all one big fluid market & when you build more, everyone moves up & frees up the bottom end.

The idea that the wealthy, the middle class, and the poor are all in completely separate housing markets with no overlap ignores how things work in the real world. In the absence of new high end housing, wealthy people outbid the middle class for the best available existing housing and renovate it.

If you object to the government of Israel, say “Israel.” Don’t use an ambiguous term that is wildly overinclusive and strongly associated with broader Jewish identity. That seems like an effort to draft off ambient antisemitism
