JKR explicitly said she considers anything Potter-related, even fan-made, endorsement of her politics. And every time you engage with this franchise, you signal to the industry that there's still money in it and they should keep pumping out content from full-cast audiobooks to book box partnerships.

There has been one editor in the country i know of who has been interested in stories about the reality for young trans kids who play sports post Hecox and BPJ. People used to beg me for stories I had all over the country. I don’t have time to pitch every outlet on earth. Silence is telling.

It’s true, in the past I would have had multiple editors in my inbox asking me to write about the Cunningham stuff. I haven’t gotten a single assignment request. Trans writers used to be tokenized to write about these things but now that the topic is “mainstream,” those bylines go elsewhere.

I need people to understand that for the last half decade that there’s been an ecosystem of trans folks in sports media who have worked unpaid to serve as experts for context, sources and educators on what it’s like for trans athletes, in hopes of potential bylines and contacts. That’s dried up.

I hate sounding like a conspiracy person but there’s a reason that this Sophie Cunningham thing is on like day 7 of discourse and how there’s absolutely very little trans staff writers driving the news coverage of it.

Big shout out to all the people who were mad at me for not wanting them to vote labour cause they were “certain labour will be better on trans rights than the tories“, they couldn’t have done it (segregation) without you

Combing through Facebook this morning, looking at the early origins of the anti-trans athletes campaign here in WA state. Found an AI-filtered image used to drastically masculinize the appearance of the trans girl athlete… perhaps the origin of the “young girls competing against grown men” line.

Australia’s eSafety commissioner buried a report (released Friday afternoon) that shows the under 16 social media ban didn’t tangibly reduce teen social media use, and also resulted in parents tuning out of kids usage. We traded our privacy for no reason. theconversation.com/more-than-80...

More than 80% of kids still using social media despite ban, new eSafety report finds

The report provides more evidence Australia’s world-leading social media ban isn’t going to plan.

Yes, this is 100% about censorship in general, and the current anti-sexual weirdness that’s going on. But a paragraph near the end of the article is especially telling… ASMR is primarily created by women. Women doing anything will always be perceived by some as inherently sexual (excerpt in comms)

a bunch of popular ASMR artists lost their channels forever this week, after YouTube cited them for violating terms against "sexually gratifying" content: www.404media.co/youtube-asmr...

the expectation that we also have to coddle people’s feelings who are aiding and abetting the harm we are experiencing is a dynamic i recognize from abusive relationships, btw. i am not saying that doing this is abuse, but there is a resonance

since this has now happened several times this week i feel the need to say that cis people trying to “well, actually” me (or any other trans person) on the fascist dissolution of our rights and the engines thereof just isn’t going to go well. if you feel challenged by something i said, sit with it

"They’re cultivating their own individual personas, while together giving off 'StudBudz of women’s baseball' vibes (what would you call a white, baseball-playing version of the WNBA fan favorites? 'Butch Buddies?' 'Masc Mateys?' Let’s keep workshopping it)."

In the meantime, here is a profile I wrote of WPBL & USWNT players Ashton Lansdell & Denae Benites. You can have it in hard copy in the sports issue of Autostraddle, out now:

we’ve reached the point in the Sophie Cunningham discourse where cis people are arguing with other cis people about what some other cis person actually meant by her transphobic comments and let’s give her the benefit of the doubt and meanwhile trans people are over here dying but like carry on

Stripe wants to charge you for the fraud prevention they used to provide for free. They just sent customers an email saying they're about to charge 0.05 per transaction unless you opt out. What does this mean and what should you do?

Trans people's medical care is under threat, and increasing numbers of trans people are responding by stockpiling the medications they need. Veronica Esposito (@veraeikon.bsky.social) spoke with trans people about medication insecurity and how they're coping. assignedmedia.org/breaking-new...

What is Driving Trans People to Stockpile their Medications? - Assigned Media

Many trans people are stockpiling their hormones for emergencies, but this goes further back than the election of Trump.
