Near Bristol UK. Dislikes: all the nonsense.

And all this could've been avoided by adherence to the simple principle that anyone who expresses support for Nazism places themselves forever outside democratic politics. If he is genuinely rehabilitated, good on him. Go forth and do good work. But you don't get to stand for elected office.

In that state, you need distinctiveness and a function. Go to X if you want to meet Nazis. Go to Truth Social is you want to suck up to the Mango Manbaby. Go to Facebook for the best in fake news. What do you go to Bluesky for? To find the Bluesky community. 3/4

Yep, the great weakness of social democracy is that it works. Its gains are taken for granted and the collective responsibility it demands can be resented by those it emancipates. It ends up defending what it creates rather than looking forward. Not sure we have a good solution here

1/14 A brief break from #TheHormuzCrisis. I've never really explained why the phrase "put the Navy in the Channel" to stop #SmallBoat crossings isn't, in itself, a serious maritime strategy. It sounds decisive. From a maritime perspective though, it raises far more questions than it answers.

A screenshot of a headline from the second of august 2026 which says, Reform UK unveils plan for largest military operations since world war 2 to stop small boats. Reform UK's spokesman claimed the move would render the border impenetrable, ensuring nobody could reach UK shores via small boat. By Helen Corbett.

I’m bored of waking up and seeing a picture of a demonstrably shit golfer say the same old bollocks next to a tied back curtain by an aeroplane toilet

It is quite strange how little the actual public inquiry we're having into the UK's Covid response - the one that's publishing in-depth reports every few months - factors into the "you're not even allowed to ask these questions" complaints. We are, in fact, officially asking these questions!

And covid was not harmless to children. Being at lower risk than adults does not mean harmless. There was acute illness needing hospital, late onset rare but serious inflammatory disease, Long Covid and 13,000 UK children who lost a parent. (more details in substack post at end) 8/12

The GOP is desperately trying to rewrite history, but just a reminder that Donald Trump was president during the lockdowns, and he awarded Fauci a presidential commendation for his work on COVID. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

This is Fenrir. He has not yet been successful in cuddling with the cat. But thinks if he goes slow enough she might not notice. 13/10 (IG: fenrirfanclub)

The overwhelming right wing sentiment is that COVID was an engineered bioweapon that was also harmless. Trump overreacted to it by shutting down the country, then engineered a drive to create a vaccine that was the real bioweapon that killed millions, and it's Joe Biden's fault.

Vaccines work. If there’s a vaccine for it, I have been vaccinated. So has my entire family. None of us has developed the diseases we’ve been immunized against. That’s exactly what vaccines are designed to do. Dr. Fauci was a scientist working in an environment hostile to science. Nobody wins.

How teenagers hired as killers by Iranian-linked gang pose a threat on UK streets

1. This New York Post cover: “Thousands of 9/11 families demand Mamdani be banned from 25th-Anniversary” is a brazen lie. How do I know? I interviewed the organizer of the petition.

given the history, I'm willing to believe a lot of that is insincere pandering but look, man, if you have to do insincere pandering because you live in a state where corporations have to kiss the regime's ass, don't try to sell us a vision where US AI companies are global champions of freedom

The result is an enormous, unprecedented accumulation of wealth in the hands of the few owning these companies. The step that is unclear is how this will make everyone insanely well off. But the myth that enormous concentration of wealth trickles down to everyone has a clear social function. /2

They've done 3 booster catches. They just haven't had one since March of last year. That's 5 test flights and an accident investigation ago. Next flight is going to attempt a catch of the Starship spacecraft, and to go all the way to LEO. Doesn't change the fact that the company's doomed.

The "I'm backing Britain" campaign surged for a few months in January 1968, after devaluation. It begins as a campaign by five secretaries about volunteering overpaid overtime, is seized on by government, the media and celebrities, and fizzles out by the summer.
