Susan Collins announcing she'll vote against a controversial nominee is basically the moment it becomes clear that nominee will be confirmed. It means Thune has enough votes to confirm, and thus, Collins gets a pass to look independent.

as noted yesterday, Trump has now come around to treating an Iranian toll system covering the Strait of Hormuz as a given. Hard to overstate the level of strategic failure. US started the war purely as a war of choice and ends up dramatically empowering Iran and given the Iranian govt big wins.

Reuters: Iran wants fees of 5%-7% of the price of cargo from ships using the strait; Oman wants 3%. "Making fees voluntary, at least nominally, could be a way out of the impasse, although an implied threat of Iranian attacks could mean shippers would be unlikely to risk transit without paying."

honestly can't stress enough, as a former family law attorney, how depressingly common Max Miller's behavior and words are, right down to the petty fixation on custody procedure and rules when faced with allegations of shocking violence.

Rep. Max Miller: "When I was reported for child abuse of my daughter for a broken collarbone, my daughter was in my ex-wife's care 9 out of the last 11 days and she took her to the emergency room, which is a contempt violation from our shared parenting plan."

One of my great frustrations with the media is they know Trump is full of shit on things like this. But because they don’t know if he’s lying or delusional they type up neither possibility. But they should be loudly writing that those are the only two possibilities and both are disqualifying!

NEW: The Reflecting Pool story is about Trump’s grip on reality, but the press corps won’t go there: presswatchers.org/2026/08/the-...

So that’s the thing to know, if you’re a tabloid that’s going to name-check me in another round of transphobic shit about Bluesky discourse. I don’t stand with you. I stand with my trans friends and family members. ⏹️

For the record: NOPE. Honestly, I don’t think there’s an issue today I care about on a personal level more deeply than trans rights. And it’s rough out there right now. Bigots on one side of the political aisle and too many cowards on the other. ⬇️

My introduction to the WNBA came because I overlapped with Brittney Griner at Baylor. She was getting accused of being "secretly a man" back in high school and STILL regularly gets that accusation, 20 years later. Solidarity matters.

Imagine playing in a league where numerous of your colleagues regularly get accused of being "men" because of their athletic ability and gender presentation and getting your knickers in a twist about trans people. Could only be a white woman.

O’Neal helped purge me & all the other Black full-time staff columnists at the Post Opinion Section. I challenged his move to fire me in the aftermath of the Charlie Kirk killing. And he testified against me in June. We are expecting an arbitration ruling soon. Convenient time for him to quit.

New: Washington Post Opinion editor Adam O’Neal is leaving, he announced in an internal memo Friday

They tried to throw an Olympian, who trained and competed for his country, in prison to cover for the wannabe king who destroyed a national treasure with a corrupt deal with one of his cronies. This is why you don’t tell them “welcome home” or vote for their nominees or vote to fund their govt.
