The cat is officially out of the bag. I promised a consequential first, here it is! On (or around) October 6th, for the first time in its 20+ year history, the SPC Mesoanalysis will be available to the field in real time via NCEP NOMADS. Oh, and it’s in NetCDF, not GRIB.
Final full descent sounding for this go around. Balloon is going back up and we'll keep doing that loop as long as Dolphin will let us.

Alot of discourse about the likely significant tornado in WI earlier. One thing I havent seen mentioned was the potential impact of a likely N-S boundary from the precceding storms. These were not well forecast and their impact is difficult to know but i think they played a role. (loop below)

Thick smoke impacts other weather phenomena, too. Thick smoke reduces incoming solar radiation, which keeps temperatures lower than they otherwise would achieve. This in turn reduces the atmospheric buoyancy (all things equal), which impacts storm development, intensity, and longevity.

Probability-matched mean has a weird quirk I realized today: there will always be at least one point on the grid where PM mean ≥ ensemble max. Basically, the largest value in any member will get assigned somewhere, either at the peak in ens max (PM mean = ens max) or elsewhere (PM mean > ens max).
Hot take: the real problem with this headline isn't the absence of a comma, but trying to say too much in too few words. (Your Oxford comma holy wars are bullshit and can be solved by writing better.)
