#CartAugust Okay so it’s kind of hard to see because it’s hard to draw right, but Integris’s Crossing is a city sized bridge spanning the last few miles of the Gold River before it falls into a massive waterfall (think Niagara but *bigger*) So the whole of the Alliance is actually several hundred

You shall not pass! Hey #CartAugust crew, time to dive in and really start looking at your maps. Today, we're talking elevation: highs, lows, and if you have neither, barriers to movement. Tell me about the geology, the history, famous explorers who lost their lives there... What do I need to know?

#CartAugust: a prompt game for map nerds by @mcburnellauthor.bsky.com
Natural features: Day 4, Barriers.
Talk to me about elevation changes in your world. Mountains, canyons, caves. Which is most interesting and why?

Fires are still going and weather conditions this week are going to get worse for fighting them. We are very much not out of the woods yet and need all the resources we can get right now. If you have the means, please go through the quoted thread and donate. Even if you can't donate, please share.

Thank you for this #WIPSnips word! I love this moment in No Sky Like Midnight, when Leo shows he doesn't hate humans as much as he thinks he does. #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts

An image with white text that reads:

As the shrieks turned into a cacophony of tortured wails, Paige's pulse rocketed. Her heartbeat pounded against his skin, and Leo pulled her closer.
"Oh my God," she whispered, huddling into him. "What is that noise?"
"You don't want to know." Leo's current was roaring, listening to all the post-mortal currents breaking and failing. He was listening to his people being spiked, turning into ash, trophies for the Venatori to bring back to their enclaves. His core burned like a miniature sun, his skin flaring, wanting release. He hated them. Every last one of them. He desperately wanted to dive into the center of it, fighting for his people.
But Paige needed to be safe first. They would do terrible things to her, and there was no chance of resurrecting her.

The #WIPSnips word for July 24th is "cacophony" My partner was watching an e-sports thing, and the announcer kept saying "cacophony of chaos" so I just had to put this word on this week. My partner was not amused because it was driving him crazy. 😂 #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts

NAUSICAÄ X FF7 Just like heroes in the old tales, Hana knows the gods have given her magic to restore the dying world, and she can handle the quest! Even if her power is hurting her, demons are chasing her, and the previous chosen one thinks she was a mystical mistake. #Questpit #A #F #Q

#Pretendpanel I like it. I love it. I want some more of it. My current books include maps, little silhouettes of the characters at the beginning and end of the book drawn by @azshure.bsky.social. My future books will also include character art. The GTI books will have it next to recipes. Example:

Good Thyme Inn Lamb Stew
All recipes have been translated for Terran use, using foods and ingredients available on planet Earth, and are safe for general Terran-human consumption. Care should be taken by individuals with specific dietary needs or restrictions.

-	1 1/2 lb lamb shoulder, cut into 1/2 inch chunks (In Aloutia, we often use cotza or aurochs for meat, too)
-	1/4 cup flour
-	6 shallots, quartered (Most people would just use onions. We love our Auntie Onion, but Parsnips insists on using shallots in honor of his wife. You can use onions, though)
-	4 cloves garlic, minced
-	12 oz dark beer
-	2 1/2 cups beef broth (Again, we use cotza or aurochs in our world)
-	2 cups parsnips, cut in bite-sized chunks
-	2 large turnips, cut into bite-sized chunks
-	4 medium russet potatoes, cut into bite-sized chunks
-	4-5 sprigs thyme
-	3 T butter
-	parsley, for garnish
-	salt and pepper to taste

-	Turn the heat to medium-high and melt the butter. Mix flour, salt, pepper and coat the lamb chunks. Shake off excess and brown the lamb in the butter. Reserve 1 tbsp of the seasoned flour.

-	Lower the heat back to medium and sauté the shallots and the minced garlic. Once softened, dust with the reserved seasoned flour and cook for another minute.

-	Add the dark beer to deglaze the bottom of the pot and scrape off all brown bits. Add the beef stock and bring to simmer.

-	Add the browned lamb pieces back to the simmering pot. Cover and simmer on medium-low for 1½ hours.

-	Add the prepped turnips, parsnips, potatoes, and thyme sprigs. Stir, cover and simmer
Shallot, Parsnips, and Turnip from the Good Thyme Inn books when Turnip is very young. She is being held by Shallot and looking over into a pot of stew Parsnips is making. He’s holding a large stirring spoon

It's another lovely weekend, #PretendPanel! Today we ask: How do you feel about those extra artistic flourishes inside of prose books? What is something you would like to see more (or less) of on the page? Or, what are some artistic touches you've included in your own publications?
