Yesterday's temperature topped 105° in Fresno. "Carlos" and team were working in the watermelons. "Our team is paid piece rate. The more boxes we fill the more we make. The person closest to the truck has the hardest job so we switch off. This is exhausting work." #WeFeedYou

"don't make enough money" is a fig leaf All those degree programs--social work, art, etc.--have disproportionately female student bodies. This is designed to make it harder for women to attend college--college education being a key factor in women's autonomy from men & left-leaning voting pattern.

President Trump is banning students majoring in degrees that don’t make enough money from taking out college loans. Degrees for social work, art, religious studies, teaching aides, and music will be hit the hardest. trib.al/aaAEu6v

I had a realization yesterday that The Sorcerer's Apprentice is a great allegory for Generative AI. Mickey pawns off work to an autonomous force only to have that force mindlessly use keep doing that very thing and destroy everything while using up plenty of perfectly good water in the process

Tom Fitzgerald is retiring from Walt Disney Imagineering. Fitzgerald had a 47-year career at WDI and helped shape Disney experiences like Star Tours, Mickey's PhilharMagic, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and Disneyland Paris.

Trump's Medicaid work requirements are putting even terminally ill patients through bureaucratic nightmares to keep their health insurance — all to fund even more tax cuts for the wealthy.

Trump’s ICE raids have reduced the employment rate of US-born male workers, according to a new study. The study also found that employers have not increased wages to attract US workers. Hello? Not only is Trump’s deportation agenda patently cruel, it’s also terrible for the economy. Despicable.

Acton - the *dem* candidate for governor in Ohio - barred trans people from attending her "listening session" with LGBTQ people and refused to allow the leadership of the Progressive caucus into the zoom.

Pretty shocking stuff here. According to @ari4ohio.bsky.social, Dr. Amy Acton's campaign refused to allow the leadership of the Ohio Dem Progressive Caucus to attend last night's listening session after Acton announced support for bans on trans athletes. They also wouldn't let Childrey in either.

This is the remarkable thinker & teacher whose Harvard role was just terminated--profiled in Harvard Magazine only 18 months ago. What is happening at the College this summer is awful (as with last summer, when the Women's Center was closed out of the blue). 🤯 www.harvardmagazine.com/2025/01/harv...

It‘s quite possible that with this move, @harvard.edu could become the only Ivy League university without a writing center. www.thecrimson.com/article/2026...

This cartoon caused such a stir when I first posted it that I knew I'd touched a nerve. It proved that those who think they are in and therefore have the right to exclude others can't handle it when their lack of love might in fact exclude them from the fullness of life.

Celebrated saxophonist Plas Johnson has died. He's best known for his playful musical turn on one of the most recognizable movie themes in history. Johnson's recording for composer Henry Mancini's “The Pink Panther” helped the song win three Grammys and an Oscar nomination.
