In addition to having no experience in immigration, their website shows Ilya Shapiro (!) and disgraced former law prof Joshua Wright (!) as Senior Counsel. I don't think this massive contract was awarded to give immigrant children effective, zealous advocacy. burkegroup.law/our-team/

This paper shows that immigration enforcement can _increase_ crime. Undocumented immigrants already have the lowest crime rate, but tough-on-immigration policy makes immigrants less likely to report crime. So immigration enforcement worsens the problem it was ostensibly meant to solve
I am not sure whether it is worth tinkering with our antiquated publishing system at this stage, but the ideal fix would be to add anti-AI verbiage to publishing agreements.

AI threatens academic publishing generally but will be existential for law once our students say "enough."
David A. Simon@davidasimon.bsky.social · 4d agoI’m increasingly of the view that we need to increase costs for submitters. Anecdotally ai is clogging up submissions and it’s reasonable to impose limits on both what journals will accept and how many simultaneous submissions one can do
This is a bizzare article. One minor example: the author purports to oppose Netanyahu while taking umbrage--in his capacity as a law professor-- at the label "war criminal" because . . ."an indictment is not proof of anything." Under this logic, we should not call Milosevic a war criminal either.

I'ts hard to escape the impression that a certain faction of the Democratic Party just straight up does not believe that Arabs specifically -- and perhaps Muslims generally -- have a place as active players in American politics

I agree with @profmarkovic.bsky.social here: it seems unlikely that Yale's admin really thinks they'll be ensuring their future with a settlement; the whole point of weaponization of OMB policies toward universities is to fundamentally change the universities or crush them if they stand in the way.

If Columbia's situation is any guide, Yale's Trustees may simply be more sympathetic to the administration than its faculty and students.
