The "one weird trick" of Republicans since Reagan has been to market aristocratic policies using vulgarian language. It's body-snatched populism. Actual populism is about material conditions and solidarity. Fake populism is saying "uninformed prejudices are more valid than well-researched views."

I think it is theoretically possible that an election entirely about health care would be better for Democrats than one fought over immigration. I also think the chance that the GOP *allows* that is approximately nil, and so it behooves us to try and figure out how to fight on immigration as well.

there are pundits who will say that immigration is trump's strongest issue and that picking fights around immigration helps him on the margins. but i think this misunderstands the way public opinion works, as evidenced by trump's declining fortunes on his handling of immigration.

Democrats are currently ahead in 63 (!!!) races in the Virginia House of Delegates. If this holds, it would be one of the largest state legislature swings in the last 4 years. Its an absolute bloodbath for anti-trans Republicans.

All the most powerful democrats and republicans either explicitly or tacitly endorsed the same candidate for NYC mayor. that should be a path to victory but instead cuomo was easily defeated, will this prompt any soul searching ha ha ha of course not

if democrats are serious about winning they need to learn from tonight and convert to islam
