It's possible to scan books without "cutting" them, which literally means ripping off the spine. But why are AI companies doing this? For one, it's cheaper and faster. Also, in a case against Anthropic, a judge ruled it was NOT a copyright violation because the original had been destroyed.

The sitting MP got 22k votes in a joke election where a novelty candidate got nearly 10k, and has thus beaten the establishment or something, at a cost of some £300k to the taxpayer. Cool. Can we now get back to the parliamentary standards enquiry into that £5million bung?
