The purest expression of corporate capture in Congress: With an explosive diarrhea outbreak sweeping the country, Republicans are simultaneously trying to ram through a provision that would repeal hundreds of food safety/animal welfare provisions. Incredible. 📹: @calltoactivism.bsky.social

This couple came legally. They applied for asylum before their visas expired, wanting to do it all by the books. After six months, they applied for work permits to stay afloat, passing background checks. They worked legally and paid taxes while government delay dragged on. Then ICE came for them.

The couple quickly became key to Chicago’s nightlife, curating events and performing in some of Chicago’s most popular venues. They were getting ready for their biggest venture yet: following Karol G’s tour across the country, hosting unofficial afterparties.
But on Sunday morning, as the couple walked out of their rideshare outside of Midway Airport, they were apprehended by federal immigration agents. The two were on their way to take a flight to Washington, D.C., the first stop of the tour. They never made it through the door.
The Department of Homeland Security said it had arrested Panqueva, 26, and Paez, 27, for overstaying their visas, which both expired in 2022. But their attorney, Enrique Espinoza, said the pair had applied for asylum within the required time frame before their visas expired. The two both have asylum cases, Social Security numbers, work permits and the documents required for their ongoing legal process, Espinoza said.

The couple’s arrest outside Midway Airport aligns with what immigration attorneys across the country have observed in recent months: an increase in ICE arrests at airports of people traveling domestically with expired visas but pending immigration cases. www.chicagotribune.com/2026/08/05/c...

USA: Medicare is dropping two COVID-19 tracking rules for long-term care and 11 specialty cancer hospitals. The agency will stop collecting data on how many staff members are vaccinated, as well as tracking if patients and residents are up to date on their shots.

Cancer and Long-Term Care Hospitals Will Stop Reporting Staff COVID Vaccination Rates Under a Finalized Medicare Rule

CMS finalized removal of staff COVID vaccination reporting for 11 cancer hospitals and long-term care hospitals, beginning with the FY 2028 program year.

When he was Chair of the House Intelligence Committee, Mike Rogers (the Republican candidate for Senate in Michigan) publicly took the position that "you can't have your privacy violated if you don't know your privacy is violated." Colbert had some fun with that: crooksandliars.com/cltv/2013/10...

It's absolutely insane we've somehow let the Covid recriminations debate become like "why didn't we reopen in person schools before there was a vaccine" and not "why did none of the trump guys go to jail for stealing PPE from New York hospitals in March 2020"

It's immoral to strip people of their health coverage just because they can’t afford bail. Congress must pass the Equity in Pretrial Health Coverage Act to make it easier for people who’ve been detained to get the healthcare they need. Healthcare is a human right.

You can/should read Emily Wilson's latest take on the Odyssey, but I'm logging on to convey my hairdresser's reaction. She was AGHAST that Nolan, with his million $ budget, gave Matt Damon ONLY 6 hair extensions. As a result, his hair did not blow around properly, & that ruined the film for her.

A Russian drone completely burned down the Holy Protection Church (Sviato-Vvedenska) in Boryslav, Kherson region, built in 1726. The church was an architectural monument of national significance and one of the few surviving examples of Cossack wooden sacral architecture.

There IS, in fact, a good faith concern, which I keep saying over and over: If out trans kids were participating at the same rate as cis girls, we would see 30-90 THOUSAND out trans kids playing high school sports. The good faith concern is the hostile environment that exiles 99.5% of them.

Imani Gandy@angryblacklady.blacksky.app · 6d ago

There is no good faith concern. None. There are only people who never gave a shit about trans women in sports being manipulated into thinking there are good faith concerns and then normal people. You can't have good faith concerns about a few dozen people playing fucking sports. Shut up and stop it

the real risk of child sexual abuse isn't trans people using the restrooms or locker rooms that reflect their genders, it's coaches and teachers and youth pastors who you want to give a legitimate reason to be inspecting their genitals in the name of oppressing people who aren't hurting anyone

If you show up to Bluesky without following anyone, you'll be treated to a series of posts about art, music, and dogs. If you show up to X without following anyone, you'll be bombarded with right-wing conspiracies and white supremacist slop. It's weird which one is seen as a "political bubble"
