A shackled detainee was thrown to the ground, placed in a WRAP full-body restraint, and carried onto today's ICE Air flight at MSP. This is the first time we've seen the device used in Minnesota. If a loved one may have been aboard, full loading sequence is here: youtube.com/watch?v=MEMv2ngB1GI

ICE/CBP have a routinized a standard technique to murder people. It's intentional. And the institutional response is a standard narrative about feeling threatened. The masks covering their faces add anonymity to the already existing sources of their impunity. Killing is already normative.

DHS has known for over a decade that immigration agents shoot into cars wily nily for no reason, or even specifically jump in front of cars to manufacture justification to shoot people. The shooting in New York on Thursday, Renee Good, so many others, it's by design.

ICE has disclosed another detainee who died We know: -After 17yrs, he'd only ever been busted for... *an expired car tag.* He was in a camp run by for-profit w/ history medical neglect An American died at one of its jails *after strep-throat.* austinkocher.substack.com/p/julian-cur...

otoh are AIs and brains actually structurally analogous enough to license an inference from the consciousness of animals to the consciousness of AI? genuinely asking here, hell if I know how AI works and my knowledge of brains is only somewhat better

Vituperative Erb@vituperativeerb.bsky.social · last wk.

Either consciousness is an emergent phenomenon of the electrochemical processes of Brain, or you’re doing dualism If it’s the first thing, it’s not clear why Brain is the only possible medium for the phenomenon

the response should be immediate contempt proceedings all the way up the chain of command to the ICE/ERO directors including escalating fines and orders to personally appear in court. if that doesn't do the trick, criminal contempt, throw them in jail. play stupid games, win stupid prizes

Will is 100% right. Has happened to multiple clients of mine. One judge (not my case) has said that this isn't really release and ordered the person *actually* released. But it's forcing us habeas attorneys to win our cases twice (or more)

literally the only irreparable harm here is to the people who are fucking getting sent to countries they have no connection to

#BREAKING: Over dissents from the three Democratic appointees, #SCOTUS grants a stay in the third-country removals case; clears way for Trump admin. to continue removing non-citizens without a full chance to litigate the conditions in those countries (while also taking up the full merits appeal).

Talking recently to family members of people snatched up and expelled to third countries by ICE, I learned: 1) All of those captured were in 287(g) jurisdictions; 2) None of the family members had known what 287(g) was and had erroneously thought people with no arrests were safe.

“The administration is able to essentially hide a multiplied ICE force not only in unmarked cars, and not only behind masks, but also within local law enforcement through the 287(g) program. I call it the invisibilizing of immigration enforcement.” www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-i...

I don't have time to write more, but ICE is working to remove people to third countries in violation of D.V.D. v. DHS. I've been up since 5:20 A.M. working with two other attorneys to prevent our client from being shipped out. If you rep someone at risk of third country removal, check on them NOW

BREAKING: The plane appearing to have been scheduled to fly third-country nationals to 3 African countries today—before an appeals court prohibited it last night—has taken off, landed at Gitmo (Somalis in ICE camp there) and is now in San Juan, a common refueling stop for ICE flights to Africa.

An FR24 map showing N352BH landing at Gitmo.

The government moving or hiding jailed people to avoid review by courts isn't some loophole in our habeas corpus rights. This government behavior has been considered a violation of the people's habeas corpus rights since at least the Habeas Corpus Act of 1679. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Habeas_...

Jailors were forbidden to move prisoners from one prison to another or out of the country to evade the writ. In case of disobedience jailers would be punished with severe fines which had to be paid to the prisoner.[5][6]

This will make it nearly impossible to file habeas petitions, because attorneys won’t even know what federal district their client has been moved to to stage for their removal. Something like a third of all people in ICE custody. apnews.com/article/ice-...

i feel like a bunch of people followed me for that Mao post, but actually the ratio of me making interesting posts about China-related things vs another repost of the latest ICE horror is like 1:20

ngl hearing Chinese Civil War takes from some people here feels like hearing US Civil War takes from someone who’s never heard of Bleeding Kansas or that Lincoln replaced McClellan with Grant

while I’m doing hot takes about China, becoming the leading EV manufacturer is bad actually because EVs are still cars and having a strong automotive industry systematically distorts your politics and urban planning in carbrained ways

very weird to have seemingly activated a Minor Discourse Event, since my average tweet or skeet or whatever gets virtually zero engagement (excluding the request for legal help for a friend’s trans kid, thank you darlings)
