Being queer means being the target of violence. Every queer person knows this. It's deeply engraved in who we are. We live with it every day of our lives. Not because of terrorism but because it is structurally enshrined in our "free" societies. Violence against queer people is not an exception ...

Internationale Evidenz zeigt: Kapitaldeckung = Finanzialisierungsmaschine. 🧵

we ran a workshop about balance sheet methodology, it was very fun and i had a blast learning about people's cool research!! and going crazy mode drawing balance sheets on the blackboard and apparently gesturing wildly with my hands as if i am casting some sort of spell according to these photos

Brilliant essay by @bhgreeley.bsky.social on petrodollars, eurodollars and dollardollars (and one of the privileges of being a journalist is that I get early access to some books, and I can confirm that The Almighty Dollar is as fabulous as you’d expect of Brendan). www.ft.com/content/be34...

There’s no such thing as the petrodollar

War on Iran is changing the currency calculations of Gulf energy exporters. But the dollar’s global role depends on far more than the denomination of a barrel of oil

New report: wind and solar are driving down wholesale electricity prices across Europe. On average, prices were ~24% lower in 2023–2025 than if gas had set the price at all times. Thread below👇

Our new analysis by @jordischroeder.bsky.social shows: Wind & solar cut EU electricity prices by 24.2% (2023-2025). As fossil fuel tensions rise again, this matters more than ever. 🧵👇

HSBC CEO “The highest I’ve seen, and I’m hoping we don’t see more of that, but the highest I’ve seen is $286 for a barrel of oil that reached Sri Lanka” That’s a delivered barrel so includes shipping, insurance, etc. But it’s still an eye-watering price to pay. FT full quote:

My main challenge writing about money is dealing with theories of endogenous money, which comes from banks, and exogenous money, which comes from, you know, somewhere but it doesn't really matter. It's a ridiculous distinction. The Fed is a bank. It's all bank money, endogenous all the way down.
