I've heard some of the mayor's allies say that Minneapolis should be known globally as a civil rights beacon à la Selma. Merits of that aside, it ain't happening as long as our mayor dismisses a genocide as merely "geopolitics" while minimizing the meaning of "collateral damage" as used in Palestine

Says other cities are moving to this tech. In addition to surveillance concerns, many have been critical of the drone vendor working with Israel.
On my commute this morning, I saw MPRB staff working outside with no PPE. Doesn’t seem great.

The drone company Skydio also contracts with ICE, which for any reasonable person would be a non-starter after Operation Metro Surge. It makes no sense to risk handing over surveillance footage of Minneapolis residents to ICE after they’ve spent the year murdering & kidnapping Minneapolis residents.

This pilot could help reduce response times when every minute matters, support an already depleted police department by making more efficient use of limited personnel, improve officer safety, and, most importantly, save lives.
Once again, it’s important to remember that, of the very few elected officials in the state of Minnesota who are working to expand the number of data centers operating, nearly half of the Minneapolis city council are amongst those few. Every one of them are ostensibly DFLers.
