I'm genuinely saddened by Lindsey Graham's passing, because - and only because - Seth Meyers had built such a rich, Tennessee-Wlliamsesque narrative world around him and his Meemaw.
I've loved watching the U.S. tean. I love our players. But given the way things unfolded above their heads leading up to this game, I'm glad Belgium won. Any victory we could've achieved from here on in would have been tainted. Such hateful lust for ruining even the things he doesn't care about.

imputing consciousness to software is 1. factually wrong, 2. pathetically credulous, 3. dangerous, 4. demeaning to actual life. i admit that it's 2 that pisses me off the most but 3 and 4 are the true problem and they weren't the case, 2 would be less aggravating

As long as I live, I'll never understand the need to wallow in and spread one's defeatism. Does it comfort you to sow your hopelessness in others? Does it make you feel intellectually and morally superior to people who hope and work for change? Is it how you reconcile yourself to inaction?
folks, it's 'weary' when you're tired and 'wary' when you're suspicious/careful. i get so confused when i'm reading something and the person writes 'weary' 'cause i'm like...you TIRED? thank you for your continued understanding during this trying time in our nation's history.

They should build loads of data centers all over the place that contain huge quantities of books that people can borrow for free if they fill out a form to get a data center card and promise to return the books on time and don’t make too much noise in the data center.
It’s an insult to “working class voters”—many of whom are women!—to claim that a candidate who represents them is bound to have a history of partner abuse, mercenary soldiering, and acting like a Nazi tattoo is cute.
I fear that this hellish timeline is teaching our young folks that the world is your oyster the moment you learn to overcome your distaste for insincerity.

Anyone else look back fondly on the unhinged descriptions of the Skymall catalog, plainly written by people paid too little to be proper corporate shills, or else, as I suspect, by the greatest authors of our time trying to outrun their writer's block via a cheeky side hustle?

I wish students wouldn't use AI to "check their work" in Spanish, but I'm glad they're at least coming to me afterwards to find out why ChatGPT did them dirty. It gives me a chance to remind them that a tool that only returns one "correct" answer is likely to undermine, not build, their confidence.

People can say it’s utopian or dreamy but it’s a fact that you have to believe new things are possible, fundamentally, in order to make them real. You have to make the choice to believe that more than this is possible & not be resigned to this being the way things have to be because it’s not at all.
