The idea that there's a level of film knowledge that will make your criticism more correct than anyone else's is bullshit. Knowledge of film history/technique can give context and help articulate for the reader how/why a film works or doesn't, but so can...knowing the source material.
Cool cool, updated Jetbrains Rider and they've forcefully reenabled their "AI Language Model" autocomplete which , surprise surprise, immediately starts suggesting plausible-looking nonsense (the suggestion here will never return a negative for the sign, even if the input is negative)

Don't quote me on this in like 10 years but I think one of the defining issues of the 2020s is "a better world is actually very easy to achieve, the powers that be are just not interested in achieving it."
The DSA in Wilmingotn, N.C. has created a "crisis" by putting benches at city bus stops, after literal decades of the city promising and failing to do so.
I set myself a challenge, strictly 1 month to build my first jet model kit (well out of my comfort zone, was difficult but happy i just finished it in time, lots to improve but was a fun time. Tamiya 1/48 F16 Block 50 Also my first mainly Airbrushed kit!
The dopamine pull quote here is very informative imo. 3 decades of programming and it's still exciting for me to make The Computer do something automatically Chatbots give people that on tap, along with sycophantic glazing and inconsistency of results that's almost a skinner box reward structure
YouTuber Hank Green Admits He Has Unhealthy Relationship With AI After Facing Backlash Over Recent Video 'The level of dopamine I've been getting from interacting with LLMs is not healthy for me,' said Green
Doctor: The AI is giving you psychosis, perhaps you should ground yourself by learning some facts from YouTube Science Man YouTube Science Man: but doctor,
Cybersecurity experts told TechCrunch that one of the biggest lessons to be taken from the OpenAI hack against HuggingFace has nothing to do with AI, but traditional cybersecurity defense.
In the Hugging Face breach, OpenAI's hacker was noisy and fast — but not unstoppable | TechCrunch

I really think "automation" is just the wrong framework for thinking about LLMs and what they do, both in theoretical terms and as a practical matter of their use. It's just a broken analogy and it leads down the very dumb road of saying things like "oh so are you against compilers bro"
Here's this week's Better Offline - I'm joined by Nik Suresh to talk about how AI mania is eviscerating global decision-making, creating a culture of fear that demands workers lie about the benefits of AI to coddle Business Idiots. youtu.be/OrKSaVDu8nM?... linktr.ee/betteroffline

"The tortoise lays on its back, its belly baking in the hot sun, beating its legs trying to turn itself over, but it can't. Not without your help. But you're not helping." "That's a great point! I should be helping the tortoise. Here are some of my favorite ways to help tortoises..."
The New York Times wouldn't let me write about the Age of Diarrhea so I had to do it myself.

What I imagine whenever a techbro announces that their AI has achieved sentience
The anti-data center movement is like "I don't want to pay more money for a thing that will not benefit me at all and will actively make my life measurably worse in a bunch of ways" and the pro-data center movement is like "We want it to be illegal for you to not like us."
😬
The wind blowing through the city is making distinctly sci-fi spaceship noises tonight, deep oscillating, reverby droning Definitely the wind making those noises. Yep. No need to worry about that
Anyway in conclusion either make something innovative and compelling or focus on filmmaking fundamentals. Both of those require effort, and so are anathema to an industry whose current focus seems to be "can we save $10,000 in production costs by having an AI generate our posters?"
In parallel, "Barbie" and "Obsession" show "you can also make a lot of money by making something surprising and fresh-feeling, targeting a market segment that feels underserved" but the studios bounce off that because they can't reduce it to a formula. They're like "can't I just make Barbie again?"
The thing about the AI Singularity is that the effects will be extremely visible to everyone very quickly If all you have is the claim of a *famously* dishonest man who needs to juice his stock valuation right now, you probably don't need to credulously report that in the paper
So Solid Crew demonstrated this can be done very efficiently: just give everyone 21 seconds to rap out their whole deal, and if they happen to waste their turn explaining/complaining about the time limit then that's on them youtu.be/g7VhofoV3qs?...

To get casual fans caught up, the new Avengers movie should start with all the characters doing a rap where they say who they are and what their deal is

Instead of selling it, Valve made their ePaper Steam Machine faceplate open source. Though it has its quirks, it is full of potential and people are already putting it in DIY Builds. aftermath.site/steam-machine-...
why does this read like a Steam store description?
