Trump announces that the U.S. will buy Russian oil. This is just a few weeks after Trump signed the Lindsey Graham Russia Sanctions bill, which authorized him to place 100% tariffs on countries that are the biggest importers of Russian oil/gas. Are we going to tariff ourselves now?

The discourse on antisemitism in the country is such that Mike Rogers can simultaneously attack Abdul El-Sayed *as* antisemitic, as a scary foreign Muslim critic of Israel, and also *with* antisemitism, as a tool of the foreign-born Jewish puppeteer.

Like, look, Israel is engaged in genocide and needs to be stopped. And also, when you are threatening the children of a Jew living in the US, that has literally nothing to do with helping Palestinians.

I’m getting really tired of the knee-jerk pushback to the reality that anger at “Zionists” is largely a cover for straight-up antisemitism. And the immediate assumption that American Jews pointing that out have ulterior motives.

Sorry but no, it is in fact notable that the US is doing something only very extremist regimes do. To willingly abandon “this isn’t who we are” as a response is to throw away a very powerful rhetorical weapon.

i hate the "what are we a bunch of asians" meme greatly as a chinese woman who's family is from northern China because yes, actually, you are! because *people* are not all that different from each other in general! and large imperial powers (LIKE CHINA AND AMERICA) are often foils to each other.

Came back bc Prof. Ha's work was close to mine--his new project was on blackness and Indian Ocean Islam. I had a series of negative interactions with him after Oct. 7, read the room, and quietly added him to my blocklist, non-reviewers list, and refused requests to give feedback on his writing...

Imagine if I, as a politician, made a statement on 9/11 in which 70% of my statement was describing how American hegemony and the suffering in the middle east was the important takeaway from that event. That's what Mamdani did in his statement recognizing October 7th.

I genuinely mean this. I cannot imagine a more bleak dystopian notion than the idea of all art being turned into slop designed to coddle my exact perceived intentions. The point of literature, film, music, and art is to be exposed to the interior lives of others. Who are these people.

Pro-Palestinian protesters gather outside City Hall to call out Mayor Zohran Mamdani for what they see as his betrayal of the movement. "Mayor Mamdani, you can't hide we charge you with genocide" was a chant that just rang out.

The worse things get for them, the more they'll lean into targeting Black people, immigrants, and trans people. These are the areas they've found the most success. But it has and will continue to expand. Back to Muslims & Palestinians is already happening. Or Jews, from the other wing of the movmt.

This sort of rhetoric is how pogroms start.
