in re Ray Bradbury's "There Will Come Soft Rains" (which, in the original Martian Chronicles, occurs on today's date), I didn't realize the very first published version of the story, in Collier's magazine, was set in April 1985. (the current edition of Martian Chronicles now sets it in 2057).

I am about to ask an absolutely insane question. I realize I am opening the floodgates here. If I wanted to read some science fiction OR fantasy, where would I begin? I have only ever read a little Philip K. Dick and Ray Bradbury and Gibson and Tolkien and Greek and Norse mythology.

Tl;dr: The Coens' Odyssey is about Lost Cause revisionist Southern fairytale history, racism, & American music via Homer's Odyssey. I would love to teach (and probably will at some point) OBWAT, Sinners, and Nolan's Odyssey as a Euripidean trilogy of films about hospitality & the 21st century USA.
