Again, the financial incentives are all on the side of AI. Why would a profit-seeking AI corporation donate millions to a teachers' union? To convert teachers into AI adopters. There is no similar deep-pocket corporation giving money NOT to use AI.

“Teaching educators about AI is a ‘moral imperative’, said Randi Weingarten, the AFT president.” “And without outside funding, it was a choice between taking big tech’s money or doing nothing, she said.”

OK so don't get me wrong-- I very much appreciate our national teachers union getting all members the meditation app Calm, for free --BUT --if your profession screams OMG THESE PEOPLE NEED AN ANTI-ANXIETY APP BECAUSE THEIR JOBS ARE BONKERS .. then the problem cannot just be solved by "breathing"

I have a student teacher this year for the first time in many years (I gave them up in favor of coaching new teachers, and this year I'm switching it up). Teachers, what do you wish your cooperating teacher did or didn't do in your placement?

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

An aircraft passenger oxygen mask: a drop down passenger mask with air bag and yellow plastic mouth and nose cover, oxygen tube has been cut; Demonstration model used by flight attendant crew for passenger instruction. Has text on the side indicating that it's non-functional.

Many of us in public K12 education are heading back into our buildings next week, and to you all: I wish you strength, stamina, and, of course, what I consider the wellspring of this work, joy. I cannot think of another time in my (long) career that our work has been more important. Let's go.

I don’t understand the argument that former presidents “deserve to relax.” The presidency isn’t a tough roofing gig; it is an immense privilege. If you spent years asking the people to believe you cared, your obligation to them survives your term.

We officially hit 700 artists on our petition to @nycmayor with the great Dave Eggers, who agreed to sign on in this handwritten letter. He wrote back to a NYC parent who wants to see a moratorium on AI in NYC schools. See the full list of signers and become artist 701!

A handdrawn monster + a letter from Dave Eggers supporting the moratorium on AI

It‘s quite possible that with this move, @harvard.edu could become the only Ivy League university without a writing center. www.thecrimson.com/article/2026...

Stephen Miller said just the other day that all asylum claims are "fake." A couple deported from the U.S. to Guatemala were gagged, bound, and shot dead. Their 14-month old found crying next to their mother's body. People like Miller don't care though because this is the point: ethnic cleansing.

Overland couple shot dead in Guatemala after local ICE stop led to deportations

The couple’s 14-month-old daughter was found crying beside her mother’s body in a sugarcane field last week, according to Guatemalan authorities and media.

At a meet-up with old friends and felt like I was losing my mind because of how people were talking about using AI for things that I know they are cognitively and creatively capable of doing. It felt like entering a world where smoking indoors was acceptable...but also am I a generational outlier??

Having an in person international or national event in America? Are you weighing factors like lodging and transport? Cool stuff to do? Here's a map to consider if any of your attendees may possibly, even remotely be LGBTQIA. And you care about them.

I lived many, many years in coastal cities without smelling wildfire smoke or existing under a hazy smoky sky from fires hundreds or thousands of miles away, but in the last 10 years it's a thing that happens regularly, and we're all just frogs in that murky, simmering water.
