Some colleagues received 5 minutes notice for their online at risk meeting and had not yet received their letter informing them they were at risk. Executive staff did not bother to turn up to the meeting. This is the true face of executive leadership at the University of Dundee.

Entirely this. We tried to make this clear during our own uni's "voluntary" scheme - it was clear there were people submitting to the scheme not because they wanted to leave the job they had, but because they feared what their job would *become* after the exodus of so many valuable colleagues.

Universities across the UK are calling their redundancy programmes ‘voluntary’. In today’s Sunday Times a Senior Lecturer in Humanities completely exposes that lie.

“I didn’t want to leave, but anyone who stays in that job will be burnt out by November. It will be far worse for the students, because they are losing so many specialists in their fields, and it will leave no time for research.”

Burnham held a COBRA meeting and decided to consider thinking about asking people who sell single-use barbecues to maybe not sell them for a little while. Meanwhile he wants to make global heating worse by drilling for yet more oil.

1996: can't use the internet without your phone 2010: the internet stretches before you like the vast expanse of a new frontier. You dance through it, unhindered. Unburdened. You have never heard of 2-factor authentication. 2026: can't use the internet without your phone

It is remarkable how quickly we’ve moved from a position where “GC” beliefs were seen as fringe beliefs which were debatable if they were “worthy of respect in a democratic society” to a place where you are publicly censured if you don’t share them, and the press is absolutely complicit.

The Times, first with the news, has discovered a report from May, though they leave out how it showed the Times itself is leading in its war on trans people.

'Dundee’s is the only philosophy programme in Scotland specialising in European “continental” philosophy....The overall programme draws women at a ratio of roughly two to one over men, already far above the discipline’s national average and rising to three to one for the art and philosophy BA.' 1/3

The AI era is exactly the wrong time to be closing a philosophy programme

Dundee’s proposal comes just as a hiring spree in Silicon Valley is raising the ceiling on what a philosophy degree can lead to, says Oisín Keohane
